Starting off the new year with a smaller month of hockey ink in the mail. 3 new NHL player signatures brings the grand total to approximately 6,800 for 88% of everyone to ever play in the NHL.

                        Jack Hamilton (d. 1994)
From 1942 to 1946 Jack Hamilton played just over 100 games in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He scored 28 goals and 60 points in the NHL with the Leafs.

George Armstrong was captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1958 to 1969. He won the Stanley Cup 4 times with Toronto and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1975. It was only a coincidence that this came in around the same time he passed away as I had purchased it before his death.

Because he sat behind one of the all-time greats in Ken Dryden, he never got a single minute of NHL action so isn't in the record books.

Some great autographs added this month. A few of these are from a team signed 1936 Springfield Indians photo. The photo was in rough condition and unfortunately a few autographs I needed were so faded I couldn't even add them. Even so, some nice vintage signature came from that old photo and its exactly the kind of item that I look to pick up these days. Another bunch of these autographs, including Barilko, came from a 1950s team signed Toronto Maple Leafs sheet. A huge thanks to Dr. Brian Price and his team at Presidents Choice trading cards for making the Barilko and Broda customs and including a game used stick piece with the Barilko autograph.

A total of 20 new NHL autographs added this month, raising the grand total to 6,820 unique player signatures or 88% of everyone to play in the league.

                          Bill Barilko (d. 1951)
Defenseman Bill Barilko spent five seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs and won the Stanley Cup four times. He famously scored the game winning goal to win the Cup in 1951 and then tragically died in a plane crash that summer. I grew up a Leafs fan, watching them every Saturday night on CBC, so this is a dream card for me to own.

                              Turk Broda (d. 1972)
Turk Broda played for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1936 to 1952. He won the Stanley Cup five times, the Vezina trophy twice and in 1967 he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

                             Bill Shvetz (d. 2011)
Bill Shvetz played 1 game in the NHL with the 1954/55 Chicago Blackhawks.
This particular autograph is extra special to me. Researching hockey history is a favorite past time of mine and not long ago I stumbled upon Shvetz's story. He had played 1 game in the NHL (the season opener with Chicago to start the 54/55 season) but was never recognized for having played it. I spent a good deal of time researching and assembling more than enough evidence to show that Shvetz did dress in that game. After sending this information out, hockeydb.com has actually changed Shvetz's profile to officially show him having dressed.

                    Matt Glennon
Boston College grad Matt Glennon played 3 games in the NHL with the 1991/92 Boston Bruins.
Thanks to Brian for helping me add this and complete the 1991/92 year of debuts. I could never reach Glennon by mail and this autograph was a real 'white whale' for me.

                         George Boucher (d. 1960)
George Boucher played in the very first NHL season with the 1917/18 Ottawa Senators. He had a long career, playing for the Senators, Maroons and Blackhawks.                       Paul Raymond (d. 1995)
From 1932 to 1935 Paul Raymond played 65 games in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens.

                       Gene Carrigan (d. 1945)
Gene Carrigan played 37 regular season and 4 playoff games in the NHL between 1930 and 1935. He played for the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Eagles.

                      Del LaFrance (d. 1995)
Del Lafrance played 3 regular season and 2 playoff games in the NHL with the 1933/34 Montreal Canadiens.

                        Frank Jerwa (d. 1992)

                          Alex Smith (d. 1963)
From 1924 to 1935 defenseman Alex Smith 445 regular season games in the NHL. He played for the Ottawa Senators, Detroit Falcons, Boston Bruins and New York Americans. He won the Stanley Cup in 1927 as a member of the Senators. *The autograph didn't scan well but its very visible in hand.

                        Jim Thomson (d. 1991)
Jim Thomson played over 700 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1945 to 1957. He won four Stanley Cup championships with the Maple Leafs and spent a season (46/47) as team captain.

                      Garth Boesch (d. 1998)
Defenseman Garth Boesch played just under 200 regular season games in the NHL with the Leafs over 4 seasons. He won the Stanley Cup with the Leafs in 3 of them; 1947, 1948 and 1949.

                       Glenn Johannesen
A Western Michigan University alumni, Glenn Johannesen played 2 games in the NHL with the 1985/86 New York Islanders.

                  Garth MacGuigan
Garth MacGuigan played 2 games in the NHL with the Stanley Cup winning 1979/80 New York Islanders, not enough to get his name on the trophy. He also played another 3 NHL games with the 83/84 Islanders. I was very happy to add MacGuigan, who now lives in Texas, but grew up in the same place I currently live - Charlottetown, PEI.

                   Wayne Hillman (d. 1990)
Wayne Hillman made his NHL debut in the playoffs with the 1961 Chicago Blackhawks. He played 1 game but it was enough to get his name on the Stanley Cup. He went on to play a dozen seasons in the NHL and a couple seasons in the WHA. His brothers Larry and Floyd also played in the NHL.

                        Bob Mongrain
From 1979 to 1986 Bob Mongrain scored 13 goals and 27 points in 81 NHL games between the Buffalo Sabres and Los Angeles Kings.

                    Roger Belanger (d. 2011)

                          Glen Currie
Through the 1980s Glen Currie played over 300 games in the NHL between the Washington Capitals and Los Angeles Kings.

                     Josh Manson
Defenseman Josh Manson is in his 7th season as a member of the Anaheim Ducks. His father, Dave, was an NHL player.

                       Ben Chiarot
Ben Chiarot has played nearly 400 games in the NHL between the Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens. Unfortunately for me, Ben doesn't answer his mail and he has never had a certified autograph card so I was forced to bite the bullet and buy this signed photo to complete the 2013/14 season of debuts.

This was a big month for the collection with many Hockey Hall of Famers added. Much of these come from recent auction house wins and the others from more of the great collectors in this hobby who I've had the pleasure of dealing with. The auction wins brought me an array of 1940s team signed sheets and some very difficult to find signatures. It was an exciting day for me when they all arrived. I have sent out a bunch of TTM requests this year but I've been getting returns few and far between lately.

A total of 53 new NHL player autographs added this month, bringing the grand total to 6,873 unique NHL player autographs for 89% of everyone to play in the NHL.

                       Lionel Conacher (d. 1954)
This is one of my new favorite cards, "The Big Train" Lionel Conacher was Canada's top athlete of the half-century and Canada's male athlete of the year still wins the Lionel Conacher Award. Not only his Conacher a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, he was a star football player who won both the NHL's Stanley Cup and CFL's Grey Cup. On top of all that, he later became a member of the Canadian Parliament for multiple terms.

                         Aurele Joliat (d. 1986)
Joliat signed the back of a vintage 1940s photograph. I couldn't bring myself to cut it up so I display it in his year of debut binder next to a Joliat Card. Aurele Joliat is an early Montreal Canadiens legend who was a Stanley Cup winner, Hart Trophy winner and NHL All-Star. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1947.

                      Leroy Goldsworthy (d. 1980)

Rasmus Dahlin was drafted 1st overall at the 2018 NHL draft. He's already played over 200 NHL games. Since he doesn't sign for Upper Deck, and has never signed for any card company, he doesn't have a certified autograph card available yet. Disappointingly, Dahlin doesn't sign via TTM either.

                     Brogan Rafferty
Brogan Rafferty has played 3 games in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks. He's legally blind in one eye so even making it to the league is a big accomplishment.

14 new autographs to share from the month of November, all modern players. Special thanks to Matt for trading me the Bryan Lerg, a player who I never managed to reach. The grand total of autographs in the collection is now 7,067 unique NHL player signatures.

The bulk of my TTM replies lately have been for some other hockey projects, most notably former NHL officials. I wish there was someway I could write to the current officials. Tried c/o their PA before but never got a reply. However, I can understand why they wouldn't want 'mail.'

Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner was drafted 4th overall in 2015. He's a point per game player through 6 NHL seasons with the Leafs and is a two time NHL All-Star. He won a a bronze medal with Canada at the 2017 World Championships.

A few old autographs on a team signed 1946-47 Omaha Knights photo found in a scrapbook is the big add from January. Unfortunately, and likely due to Covid, TTM returns continue to be abysmal this year.

I managed to add 16 new NHL player autographs during the past couple of months. The majority of these, including the Papercuts, come from a 1933/34 team signed Maple Leafs sheet. The grand total of unique NHL player autographs in my collection is now 7213 for 90% of everyone to ever play in the NHL.

                       George Hainsworth (d. 1950)
George Hainsworth is a legendary goalie. He won the Vezina Trophy the first three years it was awarded, 1927-1929. He was a multiple time Stanley Cup winner and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

                         Joe Primeau (d. 1989)
A member of Toronto's famous Kid Line, Joe Primeau helped the Leafs win the Stanley Cup in 1932. He scored 50 points in 45 games that season and also took home the Lady Byng Trophy. The Hockey Hall of Famer won a second Cup in 1951 as head coach of the Maple Leafs.

                         Busher Jackson (d. 1966)
Busher Jackson was the NHL's leading scorer of the 1931-32 season. That year he also helped Toronto win the Stanley Cup. A member of the Kid Line with Joe Primeau and Charlie Conacher, Jackson was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1971.

                         Charlie Conacher (d. 1967)
In a time before there was an Art Ross Trophy for the honor, Charlie Conaher led the NHL in scoring twice, 1933/34 and 1934/35. He also led the NHL in goals five different seasons (1930/31, 1931/32, 1933/34, 1934/35 and 1935/36) before there was a Rocket Richard Trophy.                       Claude Provost (d. 1984)
A long time member of the Montreal Canadiens defense, Claude Provost holds the dubious distinction of having won the most Stanley Cups (9) and not being in the Hockey Hall of Fame. He was overshadowed by so many others star players but he was a big member of the Habs dynasty.

Defenseman Bruce Holloway played 2 games in the NHL with the 1984-85 Vancouver Canucks. His son, Dylan, recently played in the NHL with the Oilers.
