NHL GMs, Coaches & Ass. Coaches

This isn't a mail post, its a new addition to my main page of autographs. It goes at the bottom of the page with other hockey but not NHL player autographs of WHA players, female players and NHL backups only.

There are many former and current NHL General Managers and Coaches who played in the NHL. I have their signatures as part of my All-Time NHL player collection. There are, however, numerous NHL GMs and coaches who did not reach the NHL as players. These are my autographs of former and current NHL General Managers, coaches and assistant coaches who reached the NHL as personnel only.

This is my collection of NHL general managers and coaches who did NOT play in the NHL.

May Mail Day ft. Tom Edur

A few factors at play make this a smaller than usual mail post. First is that I recently blew about 2 months worth of my hobby budget on one purchase, a lot, that should be the feature of my next mail post. Second factor that makes this a smaller than usual post is that (as I've mentioned here before) most of my incoming mail has been related to my new "Pucks & Politics" collection. After hockey, reading and studying Canadian politics is my favorite pastime so merging the two made sense and a whole lot of fun. I've gotten about 150 returns (Canadian Members of Parliament, Mayors, Senators and Premiers) so far and I'm working on scanning them all and making a post for them here since they're all tied to hockey. Finally, I just haven't been writing to as many NHLers as I have in the past. I'm running out of addresses and need to spend some time researching new whereabouts. With 'real life' taking up much of my evenings lately, that is easier said than done (we're currently in the midst of our first home purchase). However, I'm slowly but surely adding a new signature here and there. My passion hasn't faded and I most certainly won't be stopping this quest anytime soon.

This post features 8 new NHL autographs, raising the grand total of unique NHL players signatures to 5,765 for 77% of everyone to ever play in the league.

                                 Tom Edur
Tom Edur has an incredibly interesting story and I was thrilled to get this reply back. It was certainly a surprise seeing that I had sent to Mr. Edur in 2012 c/o his Estonia home. Defenceman Tom Edur spent 3 seasons in the WHA and 2 seasons in the NHL. He was emerging as one of the NHL's top offensive D-men, scoring 43 points in 58 games with the 1977/78 Pittsburgh Penguins when he left the game. At 23 year old and emerging as a star, he abruptly retired from hockey to become a Jehovah's Witness. He never looked back and in his letter back to me wrote that he never regretted the decision. He's been working as a missionary in Estonia since 1990. It would certainly never be my life choice, but I have a great deal of respect for someone like Edur to walk away from a huge contract and fame for something he truly believes in. I'm also thrilled to find his autograph, as he's certainly one of the more difficult NHL alumni to track down.

                               Kari Eloranta
From 1981 to 1987 Finnish defenceman Kari Eloranta scored 116 points in 267 career NHL games, mostly with the Calgary Flames. He represented Finland at the World Junior Championships, Men's World Championships, Canada Cup and Olympics. He helped his country win Silver at the 1988 Olympics.

                          Jason Simon
A tough customer, Jason Simon played 4 games in the NHL with the 1993/94 New York Islanders and 1 game with the 1996/97 Phoenix Coyotes. He accumulated 34 penalty minutes in 5 career NHL games. A player with aboriginal heritage, Simon is now a well known advocate in Native community development.

               Shane MacEachern
Shane MacEachern played 1 game in the NHL with the 1987/88 St. Louis Blues. What makes this addition notable is that Mr. MacEachern lives just a few minute drive away from me in Charlottetown, PEI. Even though were a hospitable bunch here on the Island, I thought it might be crossing a line knocking on his door so I sent this to him via snail mail. Interesting fact, all of our Island mail gets sent to the distribution centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. So even though he only lives a hop and a skip away, this autograph put on some miles to get back to me. Seeing as how he didn't answer any of my questions or acknowledge the Island connection we have, I'm guessing I made the right decision not approaching him. Still very happy to add this signature. Now Maynard Schurman, an old Hartford Whaler, is the last living Prince Edward Island born NHL player I need to track down.

       Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman
From 2007 to 2009 Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman played 4 games in the NHL with the Atlanta Thrashers, scoring 1 goal and 2 points. As a junior, he helped the Quebec Remparts win the 2006 Memorial Cup. A couple years later he helped the AHL's Chicago Wolves win the 2008 Calder Cup.

                    Matt Hussey
The Pittsburgh Penguins drafted Matt Hussey in the 9th round of the 1998 NHL draft. He was a high school player committed to the University of Wisconsin. After completing his education, Hussey started his pro hockey career in 2002. From 2003 to 2007 he played 21 games in the NHL between the Penguins and Detroit Red Wings.

                             Warren Peters
From 2008 to 2012 Warren Peters scored 4 goals and 8 points in 96 NHL games, dressing with the Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild. Interesting fact about Warren Peters, he's one of just a few modern day NHL players who have slipped under the radar and was never featured on an NHL card.

                               Cam Paddock
Cam Paddock scored 2 goals and 3 points in 16 career NHL games with the 2008/09 St. Louis Blues. He was originally drafted by the Penguins in 2002 but spent a few years in the minors before making it to the NHL. As a junior, Paddock is notable for helping the Kelowna Rockets win the 2004 Memorial Cup.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
To finish the mail post, some new additions to my 'baseball but hockey' oddball collection. I must have close to 100 of these baseball/hockey signatures now.

                                                               Brian Looney
As noted on this baseball card, Brian Looney was indeed an exceptional hockey player. He has a hockeydb.com page and he did play a few NCAA Divsion I games with Boston College, playing with a number of future NHL players.

                                                                 Dustin Molleken
I made these images extra large so you can read the backs, because it explains the link to hockey. For briefly playing in the WHL with the Regina Pats, Dustin does have a hockeydb.com page.

                                                                    Stubby Clapp
Stubby Clapp played high level junior hockey before becoming an MLB regular.

                                                                      Ken MacKenzie
Ken MacKenzie was a star NCAA hockey player with Yale.

A Season In Autographs: 2016/2017

With the 2017/2018 regular season now over, time to do a little housekeeping and post the 2016/2017 list of NHL debuts. I tend to wait at least a few months after a player's debut before hunting for an autograph, giving card companies enough time to produce a certified autograph. If a year passes and the player still doesn't have one released, I'll mark it as time to try sending a letter.

With 162 player's added to the all-time player list, the grand total of NHL debuts since 1917/18 now stands at 7,608.

Mail - 50 New NHL Autographs

$

0
A bit of a mix bag of mail as usual. Most of these come from a lot I purchased from another collector but there a some TTM returns, a smaller trade, some small purchases and a couple unexpected gifts from fellow collectors.

This posts features a good deal of Russians and other Europeans who prove difficult to track down once they retire as players. I've never had any luck writing to players in Russia, even writing them in Cyrillic with Russian return stamps.

With 50 new NHL player autographs added here the grand total now stands at 5,860 for 77% of everyone to ever play in the league.

                             Cam Newton
During the early 1970s, Cam Newton played in 16 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He then jumped to the rival league and played over 100 games in the WHA.

                             Brian Perry
From 1968 to 1970 Brian Perry scored 16 goals and 45 points in 95 NHL games with the Oakland Seals. He played 1 more NHL game with the 1970/71 Buffalo Sabres then jumped to the WHA. He went on to score a very respectable 33 goals and 64 points in 145 career WHA games.

                       Mike Boland (born 1949)
I added the year of birth for Mike Boland because during the 1974/75 NHL season, the league actually saw two people named Mike Boland make their NHL debuts. This particular Mark Boland played just 2 games in the NHL that season with the Philadelphia Flyers, his only appearance in the NHL. Prior to joining the Flyers, Boland had spent a season in the WHA with the Ottawa Nationals.

                         Kim MacDougall
Defenseman Kim MacDougall played 1 game in the NHL with the 1974/75 Minnesota North Stars.

                           Phil Crowe
From 1993 to 2000 Phil Crowe played 94 games in the NHL. He suited up for the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators.

                           Eric Godard
From 2002-2011 tough guy Eric Godard recorded over 800 penalty minutes in 335 career NHL games. He played for the Islanders, Flames and Penguins.

              Wayne Stephenson
Wayne Stephenson tended net in the NHL from 1971 to 1981. Before entering the NHL, he played on the Canadian national team, winning Olympic Bronze in 1968. As a member of the Broad Street Bullies he won the Stanley Cup in 1975 and went to the NHL All-Star game in 1976 and 1978. Stephenson died from cancer in 2010.

                     Travis Scott
Undrafted goalie Travis Scott played 1 game in the NHL with the 2000/2001 Los Angels Kings. He retired in 2011 after a few seasons in Russia and Germany.

                   Jordan Willis
Jordan Willis appeared in 1 NHL game as a member of the 1995/96 Dallas Stars.

                   Parris Duffus
Parris Duffus played in 1 game in the NHL with the 1996/97 Phoenix Coyotes. Internationally, he's notable for backstopping the USA to a bronze at the 1996 World Championships.

            Bob Murdoch (b. 1954)
Two Bob Murdochs played in the NHL during the 1970s, this is the lesser known of the two. From 1975 to 1979 this Bob Murdoch scored 72 goals and 157 points in 260 career NHL games. He played for the California Seals, Cleveland Barons and St. Louis Blues.

                    Brian Lawton
Brian Lawton was drafted 1st overall in 1983 by the Minnesota North Stars, the first American ever chosen with the top pick. Lawton spent a decade in the NHL, playing just under 500 games in the league. He later became a player agent then manager and from 2008 to 2010 was General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

                 Alexei Yegorov
Russian forward Alexei Yegorov scored 3 goals and 6 points in 11 career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks during the mid 1990s. He died in 2002 from a drug overdose at just 26 years old.

                   Billy Tibbetts
Billy Tibbetts has very unique story in that the undrafted Tibbetts played in the ECHL in 1995/96, sat out the next full four seasons as he served a jail sentence, then returned to hockey in 2000 only to make his NHL debut that season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. From 2000-2003 Tibbetts recorded 10 points and 269 penalty minutes in 82 career NHL games. He suited up for the Penguins, Flyers and Rangers. His career was largely marked by behavioral incidents, both on and off the ice.

                    Peter Smrek
From 2000 to 2002 Peter Smrek scored 2 goals and 6 points in 28 career NHL games. He played for the St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers. He's represented his home country of Slovakia at the Olympics and in 2002 helped his country win Gold at the World Championships, Slovakia's only ever Gold from the tournament.

                  Tomas Divisek

    Fredrik Lindquist (aka Bremberg)
Frederik is now known by the last name Bremberg but was born Lindquist. Originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 1991, he spent the first half of his career playing pro in Sweden. In 1998 he came to North America and ended up playing 8 NHL games with the 98/99 Edmonton Oilers. He's represented Sweden internationally at the World Championships.

               Clayton Beddoes
From 1995 to 1997 Clayton Beddoes played 60 games in the NHL with the Boston Bruins, scoring 2 goals and 10 points. He was signed by the Bruins as an undrafted Lake Superior State University alumni. His career later took him to Europe and he currently coaches Italy's National hockey team.

                   Chris LiPuma
From 1992 to 1997 Chris LiPuma played 72 games in the NHL, dressing with the Lightning and Sharks. The defenseman was originally signed by the Lightning as an undrafted free agent.

                  Bryan Fogarty
Defenseman Bryan Fogarty was drafted 9th overall by the Quebec Nordiques in 1987. He scored 155 points in just 60 games from the blueline during his last season of junior in the OHL and was thought to be a future NHL superstar. Fogarty played over 150 games in the NHL but his career was overshadowed by drug and alcohol abuse, ultimately leading to his death in 2002 at just 32.

                    Robin Bawa
From 1989 to 1994 Robin Bawa played 61 games in the NHL, scoring a goal and 7 points. He played for the Capitals, Canucks, Sharks and Ducks. Bawa is most notable for being the first person of Indian descent to play in the NHL.

                 Viacheslav Fetisov
Slava Fetisov was in his 30s when the Cold War ended and he was able to make his NHL debut. Still, the talented Russian went on to play a decade in the North American big leagues and win 2 Stanley Cup championships as a member of the Red Wings. A couple years later he won a third Cup as an assistant coach with the 2002 New Jersey Devils. Internationally, he won 2 Olympic Golds and a Silver as a member of the Soviet Union. Fetisov is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

                    Miikka Elomo
Finnish forward Miikka Elomo played 2 games in the NHL with the 1999/00 Washington Capitals.

                      Pat Neaton
University of Michigan alumni Pat Neaton scored 1 goal and 2 points in 9 career NHL games with the 1993/94 Pittsburgh Penguins.

                 Maxim Galanov
Russian defenseman Maxim Galanov played 122 games in the NHL from 1997 to 2001. He played for the Rangers, Penguins, Thrashers and Lightning. Internationally, he represented Russia at the World Juniors and World Championships.

                   Mike Prokopec
From 1995 to 1997 Mike Prokopec played 15 NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks.

                 Radoslav Suchy
From 1999 to 2006 Radoslav Suchy was a regular NHL defenseman, playing 451 NHL games, most with the Phoenix Coyotes. He represented Slovakia many times on the world stage, winning a Silver  (2000) and Bronze (2003) at the World Championships.

                 Brian Wesenberg
Brian Wesenberg was originally drafted 29th overall by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in 1995. He was later traded to Philadelphia and played his only NHL game with the 1998/99 Flyers.

                     Mike Watt
From 1997 to 2003 Mike Watt scored 15 goals and 41 points in 157 NHL games. He played for the Oilers, Islanders, Predators and Hurricanes.

                 Warren Luhning
From 1997 to 2000 Warren Luhning played 29 games in the NHL, suiting up for the NY Islanders and Dallas Stars.

                   Sean Gagnon

                Jaroslav Kristek
Czech forward Jaroslav Kristek played 6 NHL games with the 2002/03 Buffalo Sabres. As a junior player, he helped his Czech team win the 2000 World Junior Championships, taking home Gold.

                    Greg Crozier
I tend to avoid multi-signed cards at all costs but I couldn't pass on the opportunity to add a Greg Crozier autograph considering I haven't been able to get a TTM success (although I do know he's a spine specialist in Rhode Island). The University of Michigan alumni played 1 game in the NHL with the 2000/01 Pittsburgh Penguins. His father, Joe Crozier, coached and played in the NHL.

                   Sergei Zinovjev
Russian forward Sergei Zinovjev was drafted by the Boston Bruins in 2000. He came to North America as a high touted prospect but lasted just part of 1 season, spending the rest of his career in Russia. In his only stint in North America, Zinovjev played 10 NHL games with the 03/04 Bruins, recording just a single point. Even tough his NHL career was a bust, Zinovjev had a successful career in Russia. He won Gold at the World Championships in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, he represented Russia at the Olympics.

                   Jon Kalinski
From 2008-2010 Jon Kalinski played 22 NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers. The forward was originally drafted by Philly in the 6th round of the 2007 NHL draft.

                  Gabe Gauthier
From 2006 to 2008 undrafted University of Denver product Gage Gauthier played 8 games in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings.

                 Curtis Hamilton
Curtis Hamilton was a 2nd round draft pick by the Edmonton Oilers in 2010. He went on to play 1 game in the NHL with the 2014/15 Oilers.

                    Rinat Valiev
Russian defenseman Rinat Valiev has played a dozen games in the NHL between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens. He was acquired by Montreal in the Tomas Plekanec trade and recently re-signed with the Habs.

                             Dominik Uher
Czech forward Dominik Uher played 2 NHL games with the 2015/16 Pittsburgh Penguins.

                              Joel Vermin
Swiss forward Joel Vermin played 24 games in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks. He recently won a Silver medal with Switzerland at the 2018 World Championships.

                      Alex Friesen
Alex Friesen played 1 game in the NHL with the 2015/2016 Vancouver Canucks.

                   Brett Lernout
Origionally drafted by Montreal in 2014, Brett Lernout made his NHL debut with the 2015/16 Canadiens. Since then the defenseman has played 21 games for the Montreal Canadiens.

                              Ryan Johnston
From 2015-2017 Ryan Johnston played 10 games in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens. The undrafted defenseman is a product of Colgate University.

                 Vojtech Mozik
Undrafted Czech defenseman Vojtech Mozik spent a couple seasons in North America as property of the New Jersey Devils. He played 7 games in the NHL with the 2015/16 Devils, spending the rest of his time with their AHL affiliate.

----------------------------

                                Phil Osaer
Phil Osaer dressed in 1 NHL game as a backup goalie with the 2003/04 New York Rangers. A series of injured Rangers goalies that season paved the way for Osaer to sit as an NHL backup. He dressed behind Jussi Markkanen in his only NHL game.

                     Leon Stickle
Starting in 1969 and retiring in 1998, Leon Stickle officiated in over 2,000 regular season NHL games.
I always enjoy adding NHL officials signatures to my collection. I'd love to add more but I've never been able to find an address to send to current officials and the retired guys are hard to locate.

                      Ron Finn
Ron Finn officiated in the NHL from 1969 to 2000. The linesman worked 2,373 regular season games in the NHL and did many All-Star, International and playoff games on top of that.

                                                      Ted Fristch jr.
Ted Fritsch jr. played for the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and Washington Redskins during the 1970s. As you can see on the back of this card, I added it to my small football/hockey collection because of Fristch's hockey history. Fristch also replied to me with a wonderful little letter explaining his hockey career. He was actually a goalie and did play for a club team during college.

                                                               Glenn Hyde
From 1977 to 1987 Glenn Hyde played for the NFL's Denver Broncos, Baltimore Colts, Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs. As noted on the back of his card, Hyde also played hockey in college. Unfortunately he wasn't able to answer my hockey related questions as I got a note from his wife in the return noting that Mr. Hyde recently suffered a bad stroke so he isn't signing as well as he used to.

                                                             Jim Hallet
Like the two football cards, this PGA golf card notes Jim Hallet's interesting hockey connection. He went to hockey on a hockey scholarship but left a golfer. He played on the PGA tour from 1988 to 1993.
There are numerous examples of hockey players golfing, especially during the off season. There are, however, few examples of professional golfers playing hockey.

About a year or so ago I started picking up some baseball cards that mention hockey. The autograph collection started with Tom Glavine. I had always wanted a Glavine autograph because I knew about his LA Kings connection. I thought it was so cool that he had an autographed baseball card that actually mentioned his hockey background. I started finding more and more and this fun little side project has grown far bigger than I ever thought it possible.

I've scanned each autograph with either the back of that particular card or the back of the card I display it with that mentions the connection to hockey.

Some recent trades and through the mail returns to show. Special thanks to Matt for some great autographs in a trade.
My 2000-2010 wantlist has shrunk to just over 20 players. Once a pipe dream, its becoming a very real possibility to get an autograph of everyone who has played in the league since the year I was born (1991). This light at the end of the tunnel has given me a little boost recently and I've been really digging to try and find addresses for the remaining players. I have a feeling that its going to be a long slog to try and find the dozen or so most obscure signatures, much of them from long retired Europeans.
With these 18 new NHL autographs, the grand total of unique player signatures now stands at 5,878 for 77% of everyone to ever play in the league.
On a personal note, my girlfriend and I purchased our first home this month here in beautiful Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. For the past decade I've had my mail sent to my parent's house and then I picked it up when I visited, usually once or twice a month. Having lived in three provinces and countless apartments over that period, I never had an address permanent enough to put on a TTM request. That will finally change now that we have a little house of our own. It will also mean I'll be able to display and share the collection with anyone interested who happens to be visiting Charlottetown.

                               Mark Smith
From 2000 to 2008 forward Mark Smith scored 70 points in 377 regular season NHL games. He spent the majority of his time in the league with the San Jose Sharks but retired as a Calgary Flame. As soon as I found out that Smith played for the Sharks alumni team, I had this request out. Its Mark Smith's super common name that makes him a relatively tough autograph and I'm very happy I didn't have to resort to purchasing this one.

                            Steve Guenette
From 1986 to 1991 goalie Steve Guenette appeared between the pipes in 35 NHL games. He played for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Calgary Flames.

                         Hank Lammens
Hank Lammens was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in 1985. He attended St. Lawrence University then played a few seasons of pro before signing with the Canada national team then later the Ottawa Senators. In 1992, Lammens actually took time off from hockey to compete in the 1992 Summer Olympics as a sailor. He returned to pro hockey after and in 1993/94 finally made his NHL debut with the Ottawa Senators. Lammens played 27 career NHL games with the 93/94 Sens.

                             Todd Rohloff
From 2001 to 2004 Todd Rohloff played 75 games in the NHL, dressing for the Washington Capitals and Columbus Blue Jackets. The undrafted defenseman played for Miami University (Ohio) from 1994 to 1998.

                           Mike Farrell
Drafted by the Washington Capitals in 1998, Farrell played at Providence College before making his pro debut. From 2001 to 2003 Farrell played 12 NHL games with the Capitals. In 2003/04 he made his final appearance in the NHL, playing 1 game with the Nashville Predators.

                        Sebastien Bisaillon
Undrafted, Sebastien Bisaillon was signed by the Oilers as a free agent in 2006 and then sent back to juniors. Later that same year, a series of injured Oilers defensemen saw Bisaillon get recalled from junior for 2 NHL games during the 2006/07 NHL season. Bisaillon's first and unexpected taste of pro hockey would turn out to be his only stint in the NHL.

                        Patrick Coulombe
Patrick Coulombe played junior hockey with Sidney Crosby and the Rimouski Oceanic. From there he was signed as a undrafted free agent by the Vancouver Canucks. Defenseman Coulombe played 7 career NHL games, all with the 2006/07 Canucks.

                           Zack Fitzgerald
Defenseman Zack Fitzgerald was originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues in 2003. He was later signed by Vancouver and went on to play 1 game in the NHL with the 2007/08 Canucks. He was a tough customer who recorded 200+ penalty minutes in the AHL for five straight seasons.

                             Matt Ryan
Undrafted, Matt Ryan actually played a couple seasons of University in Niagara hockey BEFORE playing in the OHL and ultimately reaching the Memorial Cup in 2004 with the Guelph Storm. Ryan was signed to an NHL contract after his OHL career and turned pro. He played a dozen games in the NHL with the 2005/06 LA Kings.

                          Garrett Mitchell
Garrett Mitchell spent a few seasons in the AHL with the Hershey Bears after being drafted by the Washington Capitals in 2009. He's played 1 game in the NHL, appearing in a game against the Florida Panthers with the 2016/17 Washington Capitals.

                        Wade Brookbank
From 2003 to 2009 Wade Brookbank played 127 games in the NHL. The tough guy recorded 6 goals and 345 penalty minutes. He suited up for the Nashville Predators, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes. His brother, Sheldon, also played in the NHL.

                            Jakub Cutta
From 2000 to 2004 Czech defenseman Jakub Cutta played 8 games in the NHL as a member of the Washington Capitals. Internationally, Cutta won a Gold with the Czech Republic at the 2001 World Junior Championships. He's also notable for helping the Hershey Bears win the AHL's Calder Cup in 2006.

                           Martin Samuelsson
From 2002 to 2004 Swedish forward Martin Samuelsson played 14 games in the NHL with the Boston Bruins. The Bruins had drafted him in the first round, 27th overall, in 2000.

                                 Drew Fata
From 2006 to 2008 Drew Fata played 8 NHL games as a member of the New York Islanders. The defenseman was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2001. Drew's older brother, Rico Fata, also played in the NHL.

                                  Kip Brennan
From 2001 to 2008 Kip Brennan played 61 games in the NHL. The forward recorded 1 goal and 2 points but racked up 222 penalty minutes. An enforcer, Brennan played for the Kings, Thrashers, Mighty Ducks and Islanders.

                              Errol Rausse
From 1979 to 1982 Errol Rausse scored 7 goals and 10 points in 31 career NHL games with the Washington Capitals. He spent most of his career in Europe, playing professionally in Italy until 1994.

                          Nelson Burton
From 1977 to 1979 Nelson Burton played 8 NHL games with the Washington Capitals.

                  Mike Corrigan
From 1967 to 1978 Mike Corrigan played nearly 600 regular season games in the NHL. His best season was 1972/73, a year that saw Corrigan score 37 goals for the LA Kings.
----------------------------------------------------------------

                            Butch Barber
Butch Barber scored 23 points from the blueline through 75 WHA games as a member of the 1972/73 Chicago Cougars. He also played a handfull of WHA games with the 1973/74 New York Golden Blades. This one goes into my "WHA Only" collection.

                              Bill Peters
Bill Peters started his coaching career as an assistant with the 1996/97 WHL's Spokane Chiefs. He worked his way through the ranks, eventually reaching the NHL as as assistant with the Detroit Red Wings in 2011. In 2014, he was hired as head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes and in the summer of 2018 he was hired as Calgary's new head coach. This, along with the next two autographs, go into my "Coaches, Ass. Coaches and GM" autograph collection.

                       Dominique Ducharme
Dominique Ducharme played hockey at the University of Vermont from 1991 to 1995 and then had a brief professional career afterwards. He has spent the last few seasons as a head coach in the QMJHL before recently being promoted to the NHL as Montreal's new assistant coach.

                                Tim Army
As a player, Tim Army suited up for Providence College and later had a brief pro career in the AHL. He made his mark on the game as a coach, first reaching the NHL as an assistant coach with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in 1993. He remained with Anaheim until 1997. From 1997 to 2002 he was an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals. He spent a few years as a head coach at Providence College then returned to the NHL, again as an assistant coach. He helped coach the Colorado Avalanche from 2011 to 2017.

                                                         Rob Butler
This goes into my baseball/hockey autograph collection. You can read about Butler's link to hockey here. As noted on this card, Butler played high school hockey.

                                                      Willard Reeves
This is a new addition to my small but growing football-hockey autograph collection. Willard played in the NFL and CFL but his son, Ryan, became a hockey player.

30 New NHL autograph added. These come to me via the usual combination of TTM requests, trades and some purchases. Special shout-out to Matt for sending me a few graphs he new I needed and looking for nothing in return.

The grand total of unique NHL player signatures now stands at 5,908 for 77.6% of everyone to ever play in the league since it was created in 1917.

                                Fred Arthur
This isn't added to my official total but I'll display in the collection for now. Fred Arthur signed it that he wouldn't sign it. I thought about it a little bit and I collect autographs because of the link to the player. I guess this note is a link to Fred so I'll keep in in the collection for now, at least until I can find a team signed item from the 1981/82 Philadelphia Flyers. He won't sign because he's a doctor. While I have to respect personal wishes, its not like he's under any kind of obligation to sign, its very disheartening for a dedicated fan such as myself that he won't. There's no law saying he can't so its a personal choice and I've had other doctors sign for me. I believe some even use a variation of their signature for hockey requests. Furthermore, he did sign autographs while he played so they are out there, just for those with deeper pockets. I wrote him a long letter explaining my collection and how I never sell. This is the first time I've gotten anything back from him at all so I guess I can chalk that up as a positive. I'll keep monitoring his career and when he retires I'll be sure to try again.

                         Mike Hordy
From 1978 to 1980 Mike Hordy played 11 games in the NHL with the New York Islanders. He played 9 regular season games for the 1980 Stanley Cup winning Islanders but it wasn't enough to get his name on the trophy.
               Andrei Lomakin
Russian forward Andrei Lomakin was 27 when he made his NHL debut with the 1991/92 Philadelphia Flyers. He was later claimed by the expansion Florida Panthers and remained with the team until 1995. Lomakin scored 42 goals and 104 points in 215 regular season NHL games. Internationally, he represented the Soviet Union at the World Juniors, Canada Cup, Olympics and World Championships. Lomakin was just 42 when he passed away in 2006.

                    Jan Nemecek
Czech defenseman Jan Nemecek was originally drafted by the LA Kings in 1994. From 1998 to 2000 he played 7 NHL games with the Kings, scoring 1 goal.

                              Burke Henry
From 2002 to 2004 Burke Henry played 39 NHL games with the Chicago Blackahawks. He had originally been drafted by the New York Rangers in 1997 and traded to the Hawks in 2001. He was known as a tough customer and is notable for winning the AHL's Calder Cup in 2000 with the Hartford Wolf Pack.

                           Kyle Cumiskey
From 2006 to 2015 Kyle Cumiskey played 139 regular season games in the NHL. He spent the majority of that time with the Colorado Avalanche save for a few games with the Blackhawks. It was that handful of games with Chicago that got Cumiskey the Stanley Cup in 2015. He appeared in 7 regular season and 9 playoff games with the Hawks that season. If you're wondering, I used a picture of him in the AHL with the Albany River Rats because that is the time period the autograph is from (#28).

                                Randy Jones
From 2003 to 2012 Randy Jones played nearly 400 regular season+playoff games in the NHL. Jones suited up for the Flyers, Kings, Lightning and Jets. He's also notable for winning the AHL's Calder Cup in 2005 with the Philadelphia Phantoms.

                       Rocky Saganiuk
From 1978 to 1984 Rocky Saganiuk scored 57 goals and 122 points in 259 career NHL games. He spent most of that time with the Toronto Maple Leafs but last appeared in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

                                Phil Samis
Phil Samis played 5 NHL playoff games with the 1947/48 Toronto Maple Leafs and 2 regular season games with the 1949/50 Toronto Maple Leafs. He won the Memorial Cup in 1945, the Stanley Cup in 1948 and the Calder Cup in 1951. 90 year old Samis is currently too ill to sign so I picked this up from his earlier days.

                        Jim McElmury
From 1972 to 1978 Jim McElmury played 180 games in the NHL. The defenseman was a member of the North Stars, Scouts and Rockies. Internationally, he represented the United States at the 1972 Olympics and 1971 and 1977 World Championships.

                        Rick Lapointe
From 1975 to 1986, defenseman Rick Lapointe scored 220 points in 664 career regular season games in the NHL. He played for the Red Wings, Flyers, Blues, Nordiques and Kings. He passed away in 1999 at only 44 from a heart attack.

                          Gary Lupul
From 1979 to 1986 Gary Lupul scored 70 goals and 145 points in just under 300 regular season games in the NHL. He spent his entire career with the Vancouver Canucks, helping them reach the Stanley Cup finals in 1982. Lupul died in 2007 at just 48.

                              Brad Chartrand
I'm not a big fan of multi signed cards but this will have to do for Brad Chartrand until I can find an upgrade. From 1999 to 2004 Brad Chartrand played over 200 NHL games with the LA Kings.

                   Jesse Puljujarvi
Swedish forward Jesse Puljujarvi was drafted 4th overall by the Oilers in 2016. He's played just shy of 100 NHL games so far and continues to develop his potential. Internationally, he's represented Sweden at the World Juniors and World Championships.

               Alexander Nylander
The Buffalo Sabres drafted Alexander Nylander 8th overall in 2016. He's since scored a goal and an assist in 7 NHL games with the Sabres. He has strong bloodlines, father Michael and brother William have both played in the NHL.

                 Joonas Korpisalo
Since 2015, Finn Joonas Korpisalo has tended net in 63 NHL games with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

                 Gustav Forsling
Defenseman Gustav Forsling was originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in 2014 but later traded to Chicago. With the Hawks, the Swede has played 79 NHL games since 2016.

                      Nic Dowd
A St. Cloud State alumni, Nic Dowd made his NHL debut with the 2015/16 LA Kings. The following year he spent a full season with the Kings, playing 70 games in 2016/17. He was traded halfway through the 2017/18 season and finished the year with the Vancouver Canucks.

                       Matthew Tkachuk
Son of long time NHLer Keith Tkachuk, Matthew was drafted 6th overall by the Calgary Flames in 2016. He's quickly blossomed into a scoring threat and netted 24 goals last season. Internationally, he won Bronze at the 2016 World Juniors with USA.

                 Mike Vecchione
Undrafted forward Mike Vecchione spent 4 years playing hockey at Union College, a small liberal arts college in New York. He was signed as a free agent by the Flyers and played 2 NHL games with the club in 2016/17. The silver autograph on this one looks great in person but I really dislike the obnoxious thickness of these cards, it makes them hard to store and just looks odd.

                     Troy Stecher
Defenseman Troy Stecher was signed by the Vancouver Canucks as an undrafted University of North Dakota product. He's played a couple full seasons in the NHL with Vancouver and recently signed a contract extension.

                       Julius Honka
Finnish born defenseman Julius Honka was drafted 14th overall in 2014. He's played just shy of 60 NHL games with the Stars so far. Internationally, he helped Finland win Gold at the 2014 World Junior Championships. He also represented Finland at the 2017 and 2018 World Championships.

                   Jordan Schmaltz
Defenseman Jordan Schmaltz was drafted 25th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2012. He's since played 22 NHL games with the franchise. His brother, Nick, has also played in the NHL.

                Andreas Athanasiou
Andreas Athanasiou became a full time member of the Detroit Red Wings in 2015. He's scored 43 goals and 76 points in 172 career NHL games.

                  Travis Sanheim
Defenseman Travis Sanheim was drafted 17th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2014. He's played one season, 49 games, with the Flyers. Internationally, he represented Canada at the 2016 World Juniors.

                    Haydn Fleury
Drafted 7th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2014, defenseman Haydn Fleury has played 1 season, 67 games, in the NHL.

                   Denis Gurianov
Russian forward Denis Gurianov was drafted 12th overall by the Dallas Stars in 2015. He played 1 game for the Stars in 2016/17 and continues to develop in the AHL.

                      Riley Barber
Riley Barber played 3 NHL games with the 2016/17 Washington Capitals. Internationally, he represented USA twice at the World Junior Championships, winning Gold in 2013. His father, Don Barber, is a former NHL player.

                   Andrew Poturalski
Undrafted forward Andrew Poturalski played 2 NHL games with the 2016/17 Carolina Hurricanes. He was an NCAA All-Star, All-American and Hobey Baker Award finalist with the University of New Hampshire.

                 Alex Nedeljkovic
Drafted 37th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2014, Alex Nedeljkovic tended goal for 1 NHL game with the 2016/17 Hurricanes. Internationally, he won a bronze at the 2016 World Juniors with the United States.

               Vladislav Kamenev
Russian forward Vladislav Kamenev played 2 NHL games with the 2016/17 Nashville Predators. He was later traded to Colorado and played 3 NHL games with the 2017/18 Avalanche. Internationally, he won Silver at the 2015 and 2016 World Juniors with Russia.

------------------------------------------------------

                    Dean Lombardi
Dean Lombardi was General Manager of the San Jose Sharks from 1996 to 2003 and later GM of the Los Angeles Kings from 2006 to 2017. He won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014 with LA.
                            Keith Gretzky
I'm very happy to add a Keith Gretzky autograph to my hockey collection as an "oddball." Keith didn't make it to the NHL, but his last name makes him a notable hockey figure. I now have a signature of all 3 Gretzky brothers. Still have to pick up a Walter signature. Another interesting thing about this card is that its an NHL licensed card of a player, Keith, who never played in the NHL. Although his impact as a player was minimal, he's been working his way up the management side and is currently Assistant GM of the Edmonton Oilers.

                          Jack Chipchase
Defenseman Jack Chipchase was a career minor leaguer who had a brief taste of the WHA. He played 4 games with the 1972/73 Philadelphia Blazers.

                             Frank Rochon
From 1973 to 1977 Frank Rochon scored 71 goals and 131 points in 255 WHA games. He played for the Chicago Cougars, Denver Spurs, Ottawa Civics and Indianapolis Racers.

                                    Al Shaver
Al Shaver is remembered as the long-time voice of the Minnesota North Stars. He was awarded the Hockey Hall of Fame's Foster Hewitt Award in 1993.

                       Bret Hart
I was pumped to see Bret Hart on the checklist for this set but as usual, Upper Deck did a piss poor job of creating cardboard. There are a number of pictures our there with Hart in a hockey jersey yet they had to use this generic picture that was likely cheaper and easier to obtain. I also don't understand why they felt these cards needed a 'memorabilia' piece. Just one of a number of examples of UD producing a substandard product. Hart has a deep connection with hockey, lending his name to and owning the WHL's Calgary Hitmen.

                 Santino Marella
I'm starting to dabble more and more in custom cards. This one also has a little write up on the back explaining Santino's hockey connection. As you can see, he sported a NY Rangers jersey in the ring. I recently got a little nostalgic for the WWF/WWE, which I loved as a kid, so expect to see more wrestling/hockey in the future. Just sent out a dozen more requests like this.

And to end, a few baseball additions. Of course, all have hockey connections. Here, I've scanned the autograph and the card I display it with that mentions hockey. See all my baseball-hockey autographs here

                                                                       Paul Molitor
The accompanying card notes that Paul, "Might have been a hockey player if he hadn't been a baseball player."

                                                         Terry Steinbach
Steinbach was a terrific hockey player who turned down hockey scholarships to play baseball.

                                                                Greg Bird
Greg Bird did indeed play hockey as a youth.

                                          Russell Martin
A Canadian, naturally Martin grew up playing hockey as well.

                                                       Mike Pagliarulo
Pagliarulo actually has a couple hockey cards that mentions how big of a Boston Bruins fan he is.

                                                   Michael Soroka
Soroka grew up a hockey goalie and has a hockey background. His father played in the WHL.

                                                         Jameson Taillon
Taillon has a hockey background with his father having been a goalie.

                                                           Hunter Dozier
The accompanying Topps card notes that Dozier, "Likes pro hockey."

                                                                  Jon Harris
"Professional hockey enthusiast."

                                                          Donnie Dewees
"Professional hockey fan"

                                                          Cody Asche
"Fan of professional hockey."

Mail featuring Spinner Spencer

Quality beats out quantity in this mail post. With the recent purchase of our first house, my buying has been stalled but I have some additions to share thanks to a couple trades and a gift. Thanks to Gary, Ken and Jerry for helping with these additions and making this mail post possible.

With these 10 new NHL players signatures, the grand total now stands at 5,888 unique NHL player signatures for 77% of everyone to ever play in the league.

                            Brian Spencer
From 1969 to 1979 Brian "Spinner" Spencer played over 500 games in the NHL. His career was marked by personal tragedy. Spencer's father was shot and killed when his father demanded the local tv station play his son's first NHL game. Spencer's life after hockey quickly spiraled out of control. He was an alcoholic who became addicted to drugs as well. He was shot and killed in 1988 in a drug deal gone bad. Spencer was only 38. His life was so turbulent that it became a movie, Gross Misconduct: The Life of Brian Spencer. I find his life an incredibly interesting/sad story and had been looking to add his signature for some time. Very happy to add this one.

                            Kraig Nienhuis
So many things I like about this addition. Nienhuis's story, how I came to add it and the fact that he has such a kick ass signature. A big thanks to Ken, who emailed me letting me know he'd be meeting Kraig at a golf tournament and would be able to get a signature for me. A fellow hockey fan, Ken sent this to me expecting nothing in return. Thanks again Ken! From 1985 to 1988 Nienhuis scored 20 goals and 36 points in 87 NHL games with the Boston Bruins. He played pro hockey for another decade after that then retired from hockey to become a rock star. He's the front man for his band, 9 House, and has opened for a number of legendary musicians.

                           Harvey Bennett Sr.
Harvey Bennett tended net in 25 NHL games with the 1944/45 Boston Bruins. That was his only season in the NHL but he kept playing professionally, mostly in the AHL, until 1959. The AHL Hall of Famer has one notable feat in the NHL. He surrendered Maurice Richard's 50th goal, making the Rocket the first ever player to accomplish the 50 goal mark. Bennett had three sons; Curt, Bill and Harvey Jr. who went on to play in the NHL as well. Harvey Sr. passed away in 2004.

                           Jimmy Peters Sr.
From 1945 to 1954 Jim Peters was an NHL regular. He scored 275 points in 574 games playing for the Canadiens, Bruins, Red Wings and Blackhawks. He won the Stanley Cup three times, with the Detroit Red Wings in 1950 and 1954 and with the Montreal Canadiens in 1946. His son, also named Jim Peters, would go onto play in the NHL as well.

                                Joe Szura
From 1967 to 1969 Joe Szura scored 10 goals and 25 points in 90 NHL games with the expansion Oakland Seals. He later played over 100 games in the WHA, dressing with the LA Sharks and Houston Aeros. Szura passed away in 2006.

                               Kerry Ketter
Kerry Ketter played 41 NHL games with the 1972/73 Atlanta Flame and 48 WHA games with the 1975/76 Edmonton Oilers. I had tried writing to Ketter a couple times but to no avail so happy to finally add his signature.

                              Paul Shakes
Paul Shakes spent 1 season in the NHL, playing 21 games with the 1973/74 California Golden Seals.

                            Larry Wright
Larry Wright was drafted 8th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1971. From 1971 to 1978 he played 106 games in the NHL, dressing with Philly, California and Detroit.

                               Buck Jones
From 1938 to 1943 Alvin "Buck" Jones played 50 games in the NHL. The defenseman played for the Red Wings and Maple Leafs. Jones passed away in 2007.

                    Rich Leduc
Rich Leduc was a fringe NHL player on a strong franchise when the WHA gave him, like many other players, a huge opportunity. Leduc fully embraced that opportunity and became a WHA Hall of Famer. From 1972 to 1974 he played 33 NHL games with the Boston Bruins. From 1974 until the league folded, Leduc was a point-per-game producer in the rebel league. In 1976/77 he scored 52 goals and 107 points in 81 games with the Cincinnati Stingers. In 1979, Leduc returned to the NHL, playing a couple seasons with the Quebec Nordiques.

                            Rene Rancourt
Rene Rancourt just retired but for over 40 years he sung the national anthem before Boston Bruins games. The team even awarded him a Stanley Cup ring in 2011. He's very well known to Bruins fans. When my girlfriend and I were in Boston a few years ago, we attended a Bruins came and met Rancourt between intermissions. We got a photo but he was too busy to sign then and I had wanted an autograph since. This was a very quick return and he seems to be a class act all the way.

Mail featuring Garfield the Cat

A few through the mail returns here but most are very cheap purchases, less than the cost it would have taken me to buy a couple stamps and send to the player. A busy personal life has meant fewer requests being sent out than usual. I'm also at a point where I've sent to the majority of living players I need at least once so not many guys left to send letters to.

This post features 29 new NHL player autographs, raising the grand total to 5,917 unique signatures for 78% of everyone to ever play in the league.

Autographs 30-35 at the end of this post fall outside the NHL player collection but are very cool additions to my hockey collection, particularly Jim Davis. I grew up reading the Garfield comics so very cool to have the creator sign a very oddball Garfield hockey card.

                            Mike Dark
From 1986 to 1988 Mike Dark played 45 NHL games with the St. Louis Blues. The defenseman contributed 5 goals and 11 points.

                          Jacques Richard
Jacques Richard was a junior sensation who showed flares of brilliance in the NHL but could never find consistency. He once scored 52 goals and 103 points in a single season with the 1980/81 Nordiques but just a couple years later he was out of the league. Richard later spent time in prison for trying to smuggle over a million dollars worth of cocaine into Canada and in 2002 died young in a car accident.

                   David McIntyre
A Colgate University alumni, David McIntyre was originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in 2006. After a couple trades and much development, he went on to play 7 NHL games with the 2011/12 Minnesota Wild. He scored 1 goal and 2 points during his short time in the NHL. He's currently playing in Switzerland.

                 Fredrik Claesson
Since 2015 defenseman Fredrik Claesson has played over 100 NHL games with the Ottawa Senators. Drafted by Ottawa in 2011, Claesson recently signed a contract with the New York Rangers. Internationally, he helped Sweden win Gold at the 2012 World Juniors.

                    Ryan Russell
Ryan Russell was drafted by the New York Rangers in 2005 but spent a few years in the minors before he got his only taste of the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Russell played 41 NHL games with the 2011/12 Blue Jackets. His twin brother, Kris, has gone on to have a much longer NHL career.

                   Yohann Auvitu
From 2016-2018 defenseman Yohann Auvitu played 58 NHL games between the New Jersey Devils and Edmonton Oilers. A rare NHL caliber player from France, Auvitu came to the Devils in 2016 as a 27 year old rookie.

               Mark Van Guilder
Undrafted forward Mark Van Guilder spent 4 years at Notre Dame before embarking on this professional hockey journey. Van Guilder spent years in the minors before making his NHL debut at age 29 with the 2013/14 Nashville Predators. Van Guilder played just 1 NHL game.

                  Sergei Kharin
Sergei Kharin came to the North America in 1990 as a seasoned professional. He played 7 NHL games with the 1990/91 Winnipeg Jets as a 27 year old rookie. He scored 5 points but it wasn't enough to keep him in the NHL but he's notable for being the first Soviet born player to play for the Jets. Kharin had represented the Soviet Union at the 1987 Canada Cup. Kharin NHL stint was short but he spent a decade playing pro in North America, even becoming a US citizen.

                 Wade Campbell
Wade Campbell took the road less traveled to the NHL. He was signed by the Winnipeg Jets in 1982 after a couple of years at the University of Alberta. From 1982 to 1988 he played over 200 games in the NHL, dressing for the Jets and Boston Bruins.

                     Al Conroy
From 1991 to 1994 Al Conroy played 114 games in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers. He won a Silver medal at the 1986 World Juniors with Canada and in 1987 he won the AHL's Calder Cup with the Rochester Americans.

                Glenn Mulvenna
Glenn Mulvenna played 1 NHL game with the 1991/92 Pittsburgh Penguins and 1 NHL game with the 1992/93 Philadelphia Flyers.

                  Mark Kachowski
From 1987 to 1990 Mark Kachowski played 64 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He recorded 11 points and over 200 penalty minutes.

                 Jean-Marc Lanthier
From 1983 to 1988 Jean-Marc Lanthier scored 16 goals and 32 points in 105 career NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks. Lanthier is also notable for being Mario Lemieux's linemate in junior with the Laval Voisins.

                    Eric Germain
Defenseman Eric Germain played 4 NHL games with the 1987/88 Los Angeles Kings. He recorded 1 point and a fight during his short NHL career.

                 Darcy Loewen
From 1989 to 1994 Darcy Loewen played 135 games in the NHL. He played for the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators. He was a member of the inaugural Sens team. Internationally, he played for Canada's 1989 World Junior team, finishing the tournament 4th.

                     Steve Ludzik
From 1981 to 1990 Steve Ludzik played 424 games in the NHL. He spent the majority of his career with the Chicago Blackhawks but last played for the Buffalo Sabres. Starting in 1999, he was head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning for 1 1/2 seasons. Sadly, Ludzik is currently battling Parkinson's disease.

                 Todd Charlesworth
I tried searching high and low for an address to send a card to Todd, even as far as sending him a Facebook message, which is always my last resort. Unfortunately he appears to have no interest in signing these days so I was happy to find this for about the cost of what it would have been to mail him one to sign myself. From 1983 to 1990 Charlesworth appeared in 93 NHL games. The defenseman spent the majority of that time with the Pittsburgh Penguins but did spend some time as a NY Ranger.

                Brian Chapman
Brian Chapman played 3 NHL games with the 1990/91 New York Islanders, recording no points but 29 penalty minutes. His NHL career wasn't long but he did have a lenghty professional hockey career in North America, playing in the IHL and AHL.

                   Josh Ho-Sang
Josh Ho-Sang was drafted in the first round of the 2014 NHL draft by the New York Islanders. Through 2 season of pro, he's scored 22 points in 43 NHL games with the Islanders.

          Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson
A Swedish forward who attended Boston University, Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson played 1 NHL game with the 2016/17 Bruins. He was drafted by Boston in the 2nd round of the 2015 NHL draft. Internationally, he represented his country at the 2016 World Juniors.

                 Ivan Barbashev
Russian forward Ivan Barbashev was drafted 33rd overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2014. He's scored 25 points in 83 NHL games with the Blues over two seasons. Internationally, he has a bronze and silver medal from representing Russia at the World Juniors in 2014 and 2015.

                    J.T. Compher
A University of Michigan alumni, J.T. Compher has played 90 NHL games over a couple seasons with the Colorado Avalanche. Internationally, he represented the United States at the 2016 and 2017 World Championships and in 2015 the World Junior Championships.

                                Conor Sheary
A UMass-Amherst alumni, Conor Sheary was signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins as a free agent. He helped them win the Stanley Cup in 2016 and 2017 as a full time member of the team.

                       Jon Gillies
Jon Gillies has played a dozen games in the NHL with the Calgary Flames. He was an NCAA Goalie of the Year with Providence College and in 2013 won a Gold medal representing USA at the World Juniors.

                  Samuel Morin
The Philadelphia Flyers drafted Samuel Morin 11th overall in 2013. The defeseman has since played 3 NHL games with Philly. He remains a top prospect but has had injury problems recently. Internationally, he won Gold at the 2015 World Junior Championships with Canada.

                      Remi Elie
Remi Elie played his first full season of NHL hockey last year with the Dallas Stars. Through 90 NHL games he's scored 21 points as a left winger.

                      Nick Paul
Nick Paul was drafted by the Dallas Stars in 2013 and later traded to Ottawa in the deal that saw Jason Spezza go to Dallas. With Ottawa, Paul has scored 3 goals and 6 points in 36 NHL games.

                      Adrian Kempe
The LA Kings drafted Adrian Kempe in the first round of the 2014 NHL draft. He's played over 100 NHL games as has emerged as a solid contributor for the Kings. In 2018, he helped Sweden win Gold at the World Championships. Brother Mario Kempe has also played in the NHL.

                Mikhail Sergachev
Russian defenseman Mikhaiil Sergachev was drafted 9th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2016. He made his NHL debut with Montreal but was traded shortly after to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Jonathan Drouin. Sergachev has emerged as quality offensive defender with the Lightning, scoring 40 points in 79 games with the 2017/18 NHL team.

                            Walter Gretzky
Big shout out to fellow collector Jason, who sent me this Walter Gretzky autograph looking for nothing in return because he knew I was looking for one. Walter doesn't sign via mail so I never had the opportunity to add one before. This completes my 'Gretzky' collection of signatures with Wayne, Brent and Keith. I used this imaged because I own and have read Walter's book a couple times. Great book and its what I'll remember him for instead of being Wayne's father.

                      Denis Morel
Denis Morel was an NHL referee from 1972 to 1994. He officiated over 1200 NHL games as well as a couple Stanley Cup finals. He wrote me back a great little note saying what a thrill it was for him to officiate the finals.

                                               Ken Oberkfell
I only collect baseball autographs with a connection to hockey. As you can see here, Ken Oberkfell's connection is that he has a pretty cool hockey reference on the back of this baseball card.

                Chantal Sutherland
I've been making more of an effort lately to find the Fans of the Game NHL signed cards i don't have. When these were first released I couldn't justify the cost of them. I find some from this set rather difficult to find but the market has still cooled down significantly and now I've been able to add them at opening bid prices. I can say with certainty that this is the first horse jockey autograph I've ever owned. Apparently, Chantal Sutherland is the Danica Patrick of horse racing and is a big Leafs fan.

            Raghib "Rocket" Ismail
In 1991, Rocket Ismail made headlines when the college football sensation signed a huge contract with the CFL instead of the NFL. The hype was so big that the hockey market even had to capitalize on it with a couple odd Rocket Ismail hockey cards. He never played the sport, just put on some gear and had some fun for publicity purposes. I'm happy that he signed this card for me as its a very interesting oddball.

                      Jim Davis
In 1992, Skybox released a 100 card Garfield trading card set. This was the only hockey card, featuring Gafield as goalie Garf Gruntsky. I picked it up because I thought it was an interesting oddball card. When I found out that Jim Davis signs through the mail, I thought it would be cool to get the Garfield creator to sign Garfield's only hockey card. I grew up reading Garfield so I really like this unique card that I can add to my hockey autographs.

This mail post features 11 new NHL player autographs and 8 additional hockey related signatures.

The grand total of unique NHL player signatures is now at approximately 5,928 for 78% of everyone to ever play in the league.

                              Howie Glover
From 1958 to 1969 Howie Glover scored 29 goals and 46 points in 144 career NHL games. He played with the Blackhawks, Red Wings, Rangers and Canadiens. His brother, Fred Glover, also played in the NHL. I think this was the third or fourth time I had tried writing to Howie, all sent to the same address. I'm persistent that way, trying every couple of years if I know the address is correct. This time a couple page handwritten note explaining my collection and why I collect seemed to have done the trick. Thanks Howie! There are very few living Original 6 players left for me to write to so getting a return like this is always extra special.

                             Peter Wallin
From 1980-1982 Swedish forward Peter Wallin posted 17 points in 52 regular season career NHL games with the New York Rangers. He also played 14 NHL playoff games with the Rangers in 1981.

                              Bob Attwell
From 1979 to 1981 Bob Attwell recorded 6 points in 22 career NHL games as a member of the Colorado Rockies. His father, Ron Attwell, also played in the NHL.

                          Mikhail Tatarinov
From 1990-1994 Russian defenseman Mikhail Tatarinov played 161 games in the NHL, dressing with the Capitals, Nordiques and Bruins. He was the first Soviet player to play in the NHL without defecting. He had been an international star with the USSR, being named best defenseman and winning gold at the 1990 World Championships. After retiring, he suffered from alcoholism, went to prison for murder and has pretty much fallen off the face of the earth since his release. Its hard enough to reach former players living in Russia who have remained in the public eye so I was happy to find a signed index card as I doubt I'll ever be able to send him a letter.

                  Magnus Svensson
Swedish defenseman Magnus Svensson played 46 NHL games between 1994 and 1996. Originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in 1987, he spent the majority of his career in Europe and didn't make his NHL debut until he was 31.

                    Kevin Miehm
From 1992 to 1994 Kevin Miehm played 22 regular season games in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues. He played pro hockey overseas until 2002.

                   Sergei Klimovich
Russian forward Sergei Klimovich played 1 game in the NHL with the 1996/97 Chicago Blackhawks. He spent most of his career in Russia, playing pro there until 2011.

                      Keith Redmond
Keith Redmond played 12 NHL games with Wayne Gretzky's 1993/94 Los Angeles Kings.

                   Serge Roberge
Tough guy Serge Roberge recorded 24 penalty minutes in 9 career NHL games with the 1990/91 Quebec Nordiques. He continued playing pro hockey and dropping his gloves for a living until 2005. His brother, Mario, also played in the NHL.

                       Mike Heidt
Defenseman Mike Heidt played 6 NHL games with the 1983/84 Los Angeles Kings. He took his career to Europe and spent most of his life in Germany, gaining citizenship and representing his new country at the 1992 Olympics.

                   Peter Andersson
There have been 2 Peter Anderssons who have played in the NHL. This one was born in 1965 and played in the NHL from 1992-1994. Andersson scored 19 points in 47 career NHL games, suiting up with the New York Rangers and Florida Panthers.

                            Paul Newman
I've had an autograph from most of the Slap Shot cast for some time. Newman was the big missing piece. I bought a signed magazine page (for a great deal because it was signed by another actor) that I was confident was authentic and used it to make this for my collection. Nancy Dowd is now the next big missing piece I need for the Slap Shot collection.

                   Katrina Bowden
I'll admit, I had no idea who Katrina Bowden was before going through this checklist. I've thrown a few opening bids on this card and finally won this one. She's an actress best known for her role on 30 Rock.

                 Greg Wyshynski
No offense to sportswriter Greg Wyshynski, but I was amazed that he was included in this set. I was a big fan of Wyshynski when he wrote Puck Daddy for Yahoo but still, I can't imagine many people being thrilled pulling this autograph as one of their box hits. Admittedly, I've stopped visiting Puck Daddy since he's left and I haven't followed him to ESPN so I haven't read much from him lately. I also used to listen to Marek vs Wyshynski almost religiously but rarely do anymore.

                 Audrina Patridge
As you can tell from this being the 3rd autograph from this "Fans of the Game" set, I've been trying to complete my wants thanks to a new "Pucks & Pop Culture" set I've been working on. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I like the idea but dislike the execution of this set. Not only is Patridge not pictured in any kind of hockey attire but there is no explanation of her hockey connection on the back of the card either. You have to use google to find out that she's a hockey fan.

                   Mike "Doc" Emrick
This one goes into my "voice of the game" binder. Doc Emrick is certainly one of the most notable hockey 'voices' from the past couple of decades.

                        Rich Gosselin
I've been slowly trying to get autographs from all players who payed in the WHA but not the NHL during the 1970s. Many have proven difficult to track down. Rich Gosselin played 3 games with the 1978/79 Winnipeg Jets. As sometimes happens due to me poaching my images on the internet, the original index card I sent him had an image that wasn't him. However, he was nice enough to sign one of the protective index cards, which I used to make this with a proper image.

                                                      Pat Neshek
Pat Neshek is well known for being a fellow autograph collector and someone who will quickly sign anything you send him. I've read lots about him because I think its very cool that he's a collector, and has a huge autograph collection, but I never thought I'd have a reason to send him anything myself. I was reading a random article about his career when I stumbled upon a hockey mention. Did a little more research and sure enough, Neshek did play hockey growing up. I was happy to be able to make this card and send a request to him.

                                                         John Hiller
Along with Neshek, this goes into my hockey-baseball autograph collection. I scanned the front and the back of these particular cards so you could read the hockey connection and the reason I sent the card to be signed.

Hockey Ink in the Mail - October 2018

This mail post is a mix of TTM returns and some small purchases. Most of the newer signatures come via a COMC.com package. The David Koci and Pavel Skrbek autographs come via a Czech seller. That was an interested transaction. I stumbled a site, all Czech, from a google image search. Thanks to google translate, I was able to navigate and contact the admin about two cards, again only possible thanks to google translate. The website didn't have an international buyer option but I was able to ask if they would ship to Canada. After a little back and forth in roughly translated messages, the cards were on their way to Canada.

This post features 18 new NHL autographs. That brings the grand total of unique NHL player signatures up to 5,946 for 78% of everyone who has ever played in the league.

                            Igor Nikulin
Russian forward Igor Nikulin played 1 game in the NHL with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and it came during the 1997 NHL playoffs. Russians like Nikulin, who only spent a brief time in North America, are some of the hardest autographs to find. I had my eye on this particular signature for some time but I didn't have a comparable Nikulin signature in order to verify its authentication. Once I found that, I quickly added this because I knew it was the right autograph.
If you are browsing my complete autograph collection, you'll notice that contrary to most statistical websites, I've included guys like Charles McAvoy, who made his NHL debut in the 2017 playoffs, with the 2016/17 season debuts. Most statistical records would include McAvoy in the 2017/18 debuts because it was his first regular season play. I disagree with this method because of guys like Igor Nikulin. If you move guys like McAvoy ahead a year, then you get inconsistencies with the few players who only played in the NHL playoffs.

                       Martin Desjardins
Forward Martin Desjardins recorded 2 points in 8 career NHL games with the 1989/90 Montreal Canadiens. He spent a couple seasons in Europe before retiring in 1998. I haven't been able to find a trace of him since then so I was happy to find his signature on an old AHL program.

                               Fred Perlini
Fred Perlini recorded 5 points in 8 career NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the early 1980s. He spent most of his career in Britain, where he dominated. Perlini recorded 3 consecutive 170+ point seasons, all in 35 games or under.

                                 Bill Butters
An undrafted University of Minnesota alumni, from 1974-1978 Bill Butters played over 200 games in the WHA. He then played a couple seasons in the NHL, dressing in 72 games with the Minnesota North Stars.

                       David Koci
From 2006-2011 Czech tough guy David Koci played 142 NHL games, recording 4 points and 461 penalty minutes. He played for the Blackhawks, Lightning, Blues and Avalanche.
This autograph is also notable because its the last I needed to complete the 2006/07 debut year. I now have an autograph of all 139 players who made their NHL debuts that season.

                   Pavel Skrbek
Czech defenseman Pavel Skrbek was drafted 28th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1996. From 1998 to 2002, he played 12 games in the NHL, dressing for the Penguins and Nashville Predators.

                     Niklas Svedberg
Swedish goalie Niklas Svedberg played in 19 NHL games with the Boston Bruins from 2013-2015. He also dressed as an NHL backup with the Minnesota Wild during the 2017/18 season but never saw any time between the crease for the club. He's currently back in Sweden playing pro. He was named the 2012/2013 AHL goalie of the year but couldn't crack the next level.

                     Tristan Jarry
Tristan Jarry has played in 27 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has a Stanley Cup ring from 2016 and 2017 as the team's third string goalie behind Murray and Fleury but didn't get his name on the Cup either time.

                Charlie Lindgren
An undrafted St. Cloud State alumni, Charlie Lindgren has played in 17 NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens since 2015. He was recently signed to a new 3 year contract by the Habs.

                                Brady Austin
Defenseman Brady Austin played 5 NHL games with the 2016/17 Buffalo Sabres.

                  Nikita Scherbak
Russian forward Nikita Scherbak was a first round draft pick by the Canadiens in 2014. He's scored 5 goals and 7 points in 29 career NHL games with the Habs.

                 Jack Roslovic
Jack Roslovic was drafted 25th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 2015. He's recently caught on as a full time member of club and has posted 15 points in 36 NHL games thus far.

              Evgeny Svechnikov
Evgeny Svechnikov was drafted 19th overall by the Red Wings in 2015. The Russian forward has played 16 NHL so far in his career. Internationally, he won a Silver medal at the 2016 World Junior Championships. His brother, Andrei, was recently drafted 2nd overall by the Carolina Hurricanes.

                   Colin White
Boston College alumni Colin White was drafted 21st overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2015. Internationally, he represented the USA on the world stage multiple times. He won a Gold in 2017 and a Bronze in 2016 at the World Juniors and in 2018 he won a Bronze at the Men's World Championships.

                  Blake Speers
Blake Speers played 3 NHL games with the 2016/17 New Jersey Devils. Internationally, he won a Silver medal as a member of Canada's 2017 World Junior team.

                     Jaccob Slavin
A product of Colorado College, defenseman Jaccob Slavin has been a mainstay on the Carolina blueline since 2015. He's already played well over 200 NHL games and in 2017 he signed a 7 year extension with Carolina.

                   Tanner Richard
Swiss-Canadian forward Tanner Richard played 3 NHL games with the 2016/17 Tampa Bay Lightning. His father, Mike, also had a brief NHL career.

                    Anton Rodin
Swedish forward Anton Rodin played 3 games in the NHL with the 2016/17 Vancouver Canucks.

---------------------------

As usual, I'll end the post with my additional hockey autographs that fall outside of my NHL player collection...

                           Jim Boyd
From 1974 to 1977 Jim Boyd scored 49 goals and 129 points in 169 career WHA games. He spent most of that time with the Phoenix Roadrunners but also played for the Calgary Cowboys.

                              Bill Reed
From 1974 to 1976 Bill Reed played 40 games in the WHA between the Baltimore Blades and Calgary Cowboys. Reed is also notable for being an extra in the movie Slap Shot.

                           Keith Kokkola
From 1974 to 1977 defenseman Keith Kokkola played 54 games in the WHA. He was a member of the Chicago Cougars, Denver Spurs/Ottawa Civics and Birmingham Bulls. Kokkola passed away in 2004 at 55.

                  Sarah Potomak
Sarah Potomak currently plays NCAA hockey for the University of Minnesota's female team. She represented Canada at the 2017 World Championships, taking home a Silver medal.

                     Haley Irwin
Haley Irwin has been on Canada's female Olympic hockey team for three Olympic Games, taking home 2 Gold medals (2010 & 2014) and a Silver (2018).

                                                   Juan Berenguer
I scanned the back of this card as well so you can understand why I have it/what the hockey connection is. As the card says, Berenguer's son did play professional hockey in the New Jersey Devils organization with the ECHL's Trenton Devils. I now have well over 100+ baseball/hockey autographs, all scanned here.

                                                                   Marc & Karl Gelinas
I included the Eric Gelinas card here because its the hockey card I display these two baseball signatures with. As noted on the back of Eric's card, his father, Marc, and brother, Karl, were both professional baseball players. I sent these all to Marc, who was very kind and got his sons to sign their cards for me as well. Thank-you so much Marc!

                                                   Chris Walby
I've been collecting baseball/hockey autographs for a couple years now but only recently started a football collection. The first step was research, which I've completed. Not as many connections as baseball, but I was still able to uncover some really interesting stories. About a month ago I sent my first batch of football requests from this research and now those have started to come back. I scanned the back of these cards as well so you can read the hockey connection. Walby was 6 ft 7 and 325 lbs during his CFL career so even as a junior hockey player, he would have been an intimidating player. He works for TSN now so that is were I got such a quick reply from him and a very nice signature.

                                                  Bobby Taylor
I was very happy to have this as one of my first "Touchdown Hockey" returns because Bobby Taylor is one of the most notable football/hockey players. He played professionally in both sports for many years and very nearly reached the NHL.

                                                   Bruce Covernton
Bruce Covernton is another interesting football/hockey story. Before embarking on this CFL career, Covernton was a junior hockey, even getting in a game with the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings.

A Week of Mail - Fall 2018

A mix of TTM returns and a few small purchases made this a great week of 'hockey ink in the mail.' This past week brought 18 new NHL player autographs and a bunch of 'other' hockey signatures. The NHL player autographs bring the grand total to 5,964 unique signatures for 78% of everyone to every play in the league.

                             Jim Krulicki
Jim Krulicki spent one season in the NHL, splitting it between the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. He recorded 3 points in 41 NHL games during the 1970/71 NHL season.

                          Jim Hofford
From 1985 to 1989 Jim Hofford played 18 games in the NHL between the Buffalo Sabres and Los Angeles Kings. The defenceman recorded no points but did rack up 47 penalty minutes.

                         Phil Hoene
From 1972 to 1975 Phil Hoene recorded 6 points in 37 career NHL games with the Los Angeles Kings. As you can see from the scan, his pen ran out before he could finish his signature so he had to finish with a different color.

                            Greg Vaydik
Greg Vaydik was drafted 7th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1975. He played 5 career NHL games with the team during the 1976/77 season. He grew up in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

                            Mike Sands
Mike Sands appeared in 6 NHL games with the Minnesota North Stars during the 1980s. Internationally, he won a Bronze medal at the 1983 World Juniors as a member of Team Canada.

              David Goverde
From 1991 to 1994 David Goverde played in 5 NHL games with Wayne Gretzky's Los Angeles Kings.

              Scott Robinson
Scott Robinson played in 1 NHL game with the 1989/90 Minnesota North Stars. Because Robinson was never a big prospect or star player, I couldn't trace his whereabouts after hockey and his common name, I picked this up because I knew it would be hard to find another if I didn't.

              Dave Marcinyshyn
From 1990 to 1993 Dave Marcinyshyn played 16 games in the NHL. He had short stints with the New Jersey Devils, Quebec Nordiques and New York Rangers.

               Daniel Gauthier
Daniel Gauthier played 5 NHL games with the 1994/95 Chicago Blackhawks. He was high on my wantlist because it was the last signature I needed to complete the 94/95 season of debuts. See all 110 of the season's debuts here. Daniel Gauthier is a common french name so I simply couldn't locate him after he retired from hockey. This was one of those cases were I paid a little more than I usually would for a common signature simply because it was the only one available and If I missed out, I didn't know how much longer I'd be looking for another.

                   Mark Paterson
From 1983 to 1986 Mark Paterson played 29 NHL games with the Hartford Whalers.

                   Kevin Evans
Kevin Evans played 4 NHL games with the 1990/91 Minnesota North Stars and 5 games with the 1991/92 San Jose Sharks. A tough customer, he recorded 1 assist and 44 penalty minutes in his 9 career NHL games. He holds the record for most penalty minutes in a single season of professional hockey with 648 with the 1986/87 IHL's Kalamazoo Wings. Incredibly, he also put up 19 goals and 50 points that season. Brothers Paul and Doug Evans both played in the NHL.

                    Matt Henderson
The index card I made and sent Matt Henderson to sign got a little water damaged on its journey to him. He was very nice in adding this signed card as well as signing the damaged index. Not many 1990s debuts left on my wantlist so I was pumped to get this one back. Matt Henderson played 2 games with the 1998/99 Nashville Predators and 4 games with the 2001/02 Chicago Blackhawks.

                Mitch Callahan
Mitch Callahan has played 5 games in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings. He's won the AHL Calder Cup twice, in 2013 and 2017. Internationally, he represented the United States at the 2011 World Juniors, bringing home a bronze medal.

                   Eric Selleck
Eric Selleck played 2 NHL games with the 2012/13 Florida Panthers and 1 NHL game with the 2015/16 Arizona Coyotes.

                      John Albert
Ohio State University alumni John Albert played 9 NHL games with the 2013/14 Winnipeg Jets. He recorded 1 goal during his stint in the big leagues.

                      Matt Carey
Undrafted, Matt Carey played 2 NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks at the end of the 2013/14 season. Carey had just signed with Chicago after leaving St. Lawrence University. He scored a goal in those 2 games but it would turn out to be his only stint in the NHL.

                Craig Cunningham
From 2013-2016 Craig Cunningham played 63 NHL games between the Boston Bruins and Arizona Coyotes. His career ended abruptly due to health issues that saw him have his lower left leg amputated.

               Kristers Gudlevskis
Kirsters Gudlevskis played in 3 NHL games through 4 seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Gudlevskis is likely best remembered from the 2014 Olympics. He backstopped Latvia in a 2-1 loss to team Canada but stopped 55 of 57 shots in the process.

----------------

                          Donald Fehr
This return was a little strange. Fehr sent me back a letter saying how de doesn't sign business, but would sign the letter so that should be good enough due to people selling his signature on ebay. I found this slightly odd because I didn't ask for a signed business cards, I sent a custom index card as I usually do, and explain that I don't sell. I also don't see there being a big market for his autograph. Nonetheless, I'm grateful he did sign the letter for me and respond to my request. I used the signed letter to make this custom index. I like having a picture to accompany the autograph its binder.

                     Mark Vines
Mark Vines was an NHL official who is best remembered for his time as a linesman in the 1990s. I really love how ProSet featured NHL officials in their set and wish we could see a current set do the same. I'm also a big fan of the coaches cards.

                       Willa Ford
This card has long been on my wantlist but I refused to pay more than a couple bucks for it. It took a few years, but I finally grabbed one at that price. Apparently she's a singer/model. Ford WAS married to former NHL star Mike Modano but since this card was released, the couple separated and Ford has remarried.

                             Dane Fletcher
Dane Fletcher played in the NFL with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He grew up playing hockey all the way through high school as a goalie.

                               Chris Weinke
Former NFL quarterback Chris Weinke was captain of his high school hockey team.

                              Sean Foudy
Sean Foudy's son, Liam, took to hockey and looks to be a future NHLer. Sean Foudy spent time in the CFL.

                           Andrew Harris
Andrew Harris is a member of the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers but as you can see form the picture, he grew up playing hockey as well.

                            Randy Ambrosie
If you follow the CFL, you might recognize this name because Ambrosie is currently the league's commissioner. He grew up playing hockey.

                      Joey Logano
There aren't many hockey-NASCAR connections so this is an interesting addition to my collection. One of the only NASCAR card I've ever owned so very happy to get it signed and I think its very cool that they did this hockey themed card.

Mail - TTMs & Touchdown Hockey

Even with a rotating postal strike the mail gods have been good to me lately with some great returns. Some from players I wasn't expecting to get back and some from guys I thought were long lost requests. A refreshing change from a mostly disappointing success rate in 2018.
As usual with my mail posts, I start with the new additions to my NHL player collection and then I end with hockey autographs that fall outside of that NHL player collection. I currently have well over 100 baseball autographs, all with hockey connections, that I've posted here earlier. A couple months ago I decided to build on another, uniquely odd collection football-hockey autographs. I did a bunch of research and then created a little template, calling it Touchdown Hockey. After my research was more or less complete, I started making the cards. When that step was finished, I sent them all out in a couple batches. This is why there are so many football autographs in this post, the first batch has simply started to come back. Have gotten some great letters back from some of the CFL guys.

With 11 new NHL autographs the grand total of all-time NHL players sits at 5,975 unique autographs for 78% of everyone to ever play in the league.

                           Steve Martinson
I've tried writing to Steve Martinson a few times c/o the Allen Americans. Finally got a reply. Funny thing was, a day later I got another signed index back from him. That one dated back to 2016 so he must have found some time to get to his mail. From 1987-1992 Steve Martinson played 49 regular season game in the NHL. He recorded 3 points and 244 penalty minutes, which says pretty much all you need to know about what kind of player he was. He wasn't afraid to drop the gloves and went toe to toe with greats like Bob Probert.

                         Brian Lundberg
Defenseman Brian Lundberg, a university of Michigan alumni, played 1 game in the NHL with the 1982/83 Pittsburgh Penguins. It was against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Maple Leaf Gardens.

                           Ray Markham
Ray Markham played 14 regular season games and 7 NHL playoff games with the 1979/80 New York Rangers.

                        Lars Zetterstrom
Swedish defenseman Lars Zetterstrom played 14 NHL games with the 1978/79 Vancouver Canucks. Internationally, he represented Sweden at the 1976 and 1977 World Championships, bringing home a silver medal in 1977.

                        Lars Lindgren
From 1978 to 1984 Lars Lindgren played nearly 400 regular season games and another 40 playoff games in the NHL. He spent most of that time with the Vancouver Canucks but spent his last season with the Minnesota North Stars. The defenseman was a 1981 NHL All-Star. A Swede, he represented his country at the World Championships in 1977 (won silver) and 1978 as well as at the 1980 Canada Cup.

                        Steve Poapst
Steve Poapst graduated Colgate University in 1991 as an undrafted free agent. He worked his way up the pro hockey ranks, winning the AHL's Calder Cup in 1994 and being named an AHL All-Star the next year. Poapst made his NHL debut with the 1995/96 Washington Capitals. From then until 2006 the defenseman played over 300 NHL games. He played for the Capitals, Blackhawks, Penguins and Blues.

                         Roland Stolz
(Not to be confused with the Swedish Olympic hockey player by the same name) Roland Stolz spent all but 1 season of his pro hockey career in Sweden. He came to North America for one season after being signed by the Washington Capitals. He played 14 NHL games with the 1981/82 Capitals, scoring 2 goals and 4 points. Internationally, he represented Sweden a number of times. Most notable is the 1981 World Championships, helping Sweden capture Silver.

                        Steve Lyon
Steve Lyon played 3 NHL games with the 1976/77 Pittsburgh Penguins. He was a solid hockey player who put up some great numbers in the IHL.

                          C.J. Smith
C.J. Smith was signed by the Sabres directly out of UMass-Lowell. He joined the team late in the 2016/17 year and played 2 NHL games at the end of the season. Smith started the next season in the minors and has yet to get back with the NHL club but has put up some promising numbers in the AHL with Rochester.

                          Nelson Nogier
Defenseman Nelson Nogier has played 10 games in the NHL, all with the 2016/17 Winnipeg Jets.

                        Evan McEneny
Defenseman Evan McEneny played 1 NHL game with the 2016/17 Vancouver Canucks. He was undrafted and signed by Vancouver after a junior career in the OHL.

I've scanned the front and back of these cards so you can read about the hockey connections, just click the image to enlarge them. A good mix of stories here.

                             Bart Hull
On top of the very cool family connection, Bart actually played some pro hockey AFTER his CFL career was finished.

                                Joe Poplawski

                                 Dick Vermeil

                               Darrin Chiaverini

                                      John Alt

                              Jordan Reaves

                                    Nick Dzubnar

                                   Mark Rypien

                             Anthony Calvillo

                                   Wally Buono

                                Marshall Toner
You can tell that I hadn't settled on a design yet when I sent to Mr. Toner.

                            Brent Urban
This is what happens when your letter gets soaked in water. Who knows how it happened but somewhere along the journey it got really wet. Autograph is fine and card held up enough to keep.

Milestone Mail - Autograph #6,000

$

0
This is a Milestone mail post because I've now reached 6,000 unique NHL player signatures. With 27 new autographs added recently, the grand total is now 6,002 unique NHL player signatures for 79% of everyone who has every played in the league.

I was about 12 when I got my first hockey autograph (Marc Denis when the Columbus Blue Jackets held a training camp in PEI one summer) and not long after that, I started to write to players. I started with the living Original 6 guys and just never stopped. I got some great letters back then which was really exciting for a young collector. Once I ran out of older guys to write to I started with the modern players. I was about 17 or 18 when I started contemplating the goal of getting everyone who ever played in the NHL. At that time, I thought I'd be lucky to ever get to 50%. I've been at it for a solid decade now and my slow but steady pace of continuously adding autographs has built up to something beyond my wildest dreams as a kid. Like most people, I've gone through a ton of life changes through that time but have somehow always managed to keep an interest in the hobby. Even in college, between drinking and exams, I still found time to write these letters and collect. I continue to thoroughly enjoy collecting autographs so unless a day comes when that flames flutters, you can continue to expect my slow but steady addition of hockey signatures.

                                 Mike Colman
Mike Colman was signed by the San Jose Sharks as an undrafted free agent who had attended Ferris State University. The defenseman played 15 NHL games with the 1991/92 San Jose Sharks, recording 1 assist and 32 penalty minutes. Tragically, Colman died in 1994 from a car accident. Because he was never a big prospect, a stay at home defenseman and he died suddenly so young, you rarely see his autograph. This came from a Sharks yearbook.

                              Roger Crozier
From 1963 to 1977 Roger Crozier played over 500 NHL games. He backstopped the Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals. Crozier won the 1965 Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year and was also a 1965 NHL All-Star. In 1966, he won the Conn Smythe Trophy, backstopping the Red Wings to the Stanley Cup finals. He was the first player from a loosing team to be named playoff MVP. Crozier died in 1996 from cancer and to honor his memory the league currently awards the Roger Crozier Award to the NHL goalie(s) with the best save percentage.

                              Jim Jones
Defenseman Jim Jones played 2 NHL games with the 1971/72 California Golden Seals. He also played 1 game in the WHA with the 1973/74 Chicago Cougars. His brother, Bob, also played in the NHL and WHA. While I was able to find Bob, I could never locate Jim largely thanks to his common name.

                             Jack Carlson
Jack Carlson is famously a member of the Carlson brothers, who were the direct inspiration for the Hanson brothers in Slapshot. His brothers, Steve and Jeff, both played their roles in the film but Jack was replace by Dave Hanson because he was playing for Edmonton Oilers at the time of filming. Of the three brothers, Jack had by far the most success as a professional hockey player. He played a few seasons in the WHA and NHL. I was thrilled to get this one back because Carlson has a very notable place in hockey history but only has 1 hockey card and his signature isn't common.

                      Harvey Bennett Jr.
From 1974 to 1979 Harvey Bennett Jr. played 268 regular season games in the NHL, recording 44 goals and 90 points. He played for the Penguins, Capitals, Flyers, North Stars and Blues. Internationally, he represented the United States at the 1976 Canada Cup and 1978 World Championships. His father, Harvey Sr., played in the NHL as well as his brothers Curt and Bill.

                          Mark Holden
From 1981 to 1985 goalie Mark Holden played 8 games in the NHL. A Brown University alumni, he played for the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets. Holden was one of the very last living former NHL goalies I needed to find so very happy to get this one back. Ironically, I used to live just a couple blocks away from him when I lived in Nova Scotia. Small world.

                                   Bobby Jay
Bobby Jay was signed by the LA Kings as an undrafted Merrimack College alumni. He played 3 NHL games with Wayne Gretzky's 1993/94 LA Kings.

                             Turner Elson
An undrafted forward, Turner Elson was signed by the Flames after a junior hockey career with the WHL's Red Deer Rebels. Elson played 1 NHL game with the 2015/16 Calgary Flames and recorded an assist in his only NHL match.

                          Dillon Simpson
The son of former NHL player and hockey personality Craig Simpson, defenseman Dillon Simpson played 3 NHL games with the 2016/17 Edmonton Oilers. He's a University of North Dakota alumni.

                        Joseph Cramarossa
Joseph Cramarossa scored 4 goals and 10 points in 49 NHL games with the 2016/17 Anaheim Ducks. Late that season he was claimed by the Vancouver Canucks on waivers and appeared in another 10 NHL games with Vancouver during the end of the 2016/17 season. Since then, Cramarossa has been stuck in the AHL.

                        Mike Liambas
A tough customer, Mike Liambas played 1 NHL game with the 2016/17 Nashville Predators and 7 games with the 2017/18 Anaheim Ducks. He recorded 1 assist and 21 penalty minutes in 8 career NHL games. Liambas was an undrafted junior player who worked his way up from the ECHL to the AHL and then finally to the big leagues.

                        Zane McIntyre
Zane McIntyre is a University of North Dakota alumni who was a Hobey Baker finalist in his last season of college hockey. McIntyre backstopped the Boston Bruins in 8 NHL games during the 2016/17 season.

                            Rob O'Gara
Defenseman Rob O'Gara has played 33 games in the NHL between the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers. O'Gara was named the ECAC's Best Defensive Defenseman in his last two seasons at Yale University.

                     Grant Lewis
A Dartmouth College alumni, defenseman Grant Lewis played 1 NHL game with the 2008/09 Atlanta Thrashers.

                  Alexander Khavanov
Russian defenseman Alexander Khavanov played 348 regular season NHL games from 2000-2006. He spent his first 4 seasons with the St. Louis Blues and his last with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Internationally, he represented Russia at the 1999, 2000 and 2003 World Championships. He also represented Russia at the 2004 World Cup.

                 Greg Johnston
From 1983 to 1992 Greg Johnston scored 26 goals and 56 points in 187 career NHL games. He played for the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs. Internationally, he won a Gold medal with Canada at the 1985 World Juniors.

                 Murray Eaves
From 1980 to 1990 Murray Eaves played 57 games in the NHL, dressing with the Winnipeg Jets and Detroit Red Wings. A member of the AHL Hall of Fame, Eaves won the Calder Cup in 1985 and 1989. His brother, Mike, also played in the NHL.

                                 Shane Harper
Undrafted forward Shane Harper scored 2 goals and 3 points in 14 career NHL games with the 2016/17 Florida Panthers.

                   Daniil Tarasov
Russian forward Daniil Tarasov played 5 NHL games with the 2014/15 San Jose Sharks. He's spent the last few seasons playing in the KHL with Dynamo Moscow.

                Borna Rendulic
Borna Rendulic is the first person born and raised in Croatia to make it to the NHL. He played 15 games in the big leagues, dressing for the Colorado Avalanche and briefly with the Vancouver Canucks.

              Raman Hrabarenka
Raman Hrabarenka played 1 NHL game with the 2014/15 New Jersey Devils. Internationally, he has represented Belarus at 4 World Championships.

                  Jeff Greenlaw
From 1986 to 1994 Jeff Greenlaw played 57 regular season games in the NHL. He spent most of that time with the Washington Capitals, who drafted him 19th overall in 1986. Internationally, Greenlaw won a Silver medal at the 1986 World Juniors with Canada.

                       Wes Jarvis
From 1979 to 1988 Wes Jarvis played 237 games in the NHL, scoring 31 goals and 86 points. Jarvis played for the Capitals, North Stars, Kings and Maple Leafs.

                 Perry Anderson
From 1981 to 1992 Perry Anderson played 400 NHL games. He recorded 50 goals, 109 points and over 1000 penalty minutes. Anderson played for the St. Louis Blues, New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks. Before reaching the NHL, he was also a heck of a baseball player who even had a tryout with the Toronto Blue Jays.

                     Paul Gagne
From 1980 to 1990 Paul Gagne scored 110 goals and 212 points in 390 career NHL games. He spent most of his time with the New Jersey Devils but also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders.

                   Jeff Sharples
From 1986 to 1989 Jeff Sharples scored 14 goals and 49 points in 105 NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings. The defenseman put up solid numbers in his short NHL career but still couldn't crack the big leagues full time and spent the majority of his career in the minors, retiring in 2000.

                      Petr Kanko
This was the best example of Petr Kanko's autograph I could find but I hope to upgrade in the future. I have a TTM request out to him via his current Czech team so if I'm lucky, that might eventually come back. The Czech forward played 10 NHL games with the 2005/06 LA Kings.

------------------

                             Punch Imlach
Hockey Hall of Famer Punch Imlach spent many years as head coach and GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres. He guided the Toronto Maple Leafs to 4 Stanley Cup championships and is one of the NHL's most notable figures from the 60s and 70s. Punch passed away in 1987.

                 George Kingston
George Kingston was head coach of the San Jose Sharks from 1991 to 1993. He also served as an NHL assistant coach with the Minnesota North Stars (88-89), Atlanta Thrashers (99-01) and Florida Panthers (01-07). Kingston reached the NHL after a long coaching career at the University of Calgary and for Canada's National team.

                               Drew Remenda
Drew Remenda is best know as a hockey personality who currently does color commentary for the Edmonton Oilers. He started his hockey career as a coach and as an NHL assistant with the San Jose Sharks form 1991 to 1995.

                      Bob Hodges
Bob Hodges officiated in the NHL from 1972 to 1998. He officiated 3 Stanley Cup finals and nearly 2,000 NHL regular season+playoff games in total.

                    Jason Soules
I like to collect autographs of first round NHL picks who didn't make it to the big leagues. Soules is especially interesting, drafted 15h overall by the Oilers in 1989, because he got an official Upper Deck NHL rookie card without ever playing an NHL game.

                             Ted Brown
Ted played in the NFL and his son, J.T., played in the NHL.

                           Paul Nastasiuk
Paul was a star CFL player and his son, Zach, has become a professional hockey player.

                         James Tuck
CFL player James Tuck grew up playing competitive hockey but concentrated on football as he grew older.

                           Danny Banda
Danny Banda was a stellar football player with the Saskatchewan Roughriders who was also a star senior hockey player.

                             Fred Rogers
I found this, of all places, on the local Facebook marketplace. I say that because being from a small city, nothing collection related ever catches my eye, until this piece. The best part about it was the price. I'm confident I could sell it for 10x what I paid but that will never happen because it will forever be in my collection. The hockey connection is the scanned 'Celebrity Captain' cards. With Rogers having passed away in 2003, I'm throwing in the towel on every being able to find/afford a signed card but having this piece displayed with the card is the next best thing. I remember this ProSet card from my childhoold, hockey and Mister Rogers both being prominent parts of my adolescence.

I managed to find a little time during these holidays to scan and put away 21 new NHL autographs that came in the mail this past month. The grand total now stands at 6,023 unique NHL signatures for 79% of everyone to every play in the league. View the whole collection here.

The stars of this mail post are a couple tough 1990s autographs in Jeff Batters and Sasha Lakovic as well as a couple nice vintage signatures in McCreedy and Dame. I managed to find those at a steal of a low price on a signed Trail Smoke Eaters senior hockey sheet.

                  Dave Balon
From 1960 to 1973 Dave Balon played nearly 800 games in the NHL. He was a multiple time NHL All-Star who won the Stanley Cup twice as a member of the Montreal Canadiens. Multiple Sclerosis forced him to retire early and he suffered from the disease for decades. Balon passed away in 2007.

                         John McCreedy
John McCreedy was a long time senior hockey player who won the Allan Cup in 1938 and 1940. In 1939, he represented Canada at the World Championships and brought home Gold. McCreedy played two seasons in the NHL, with the 1941/42 Toronto Maple Leafs and 1944/45 Maple Leafs. He took time off between those seasons to serve his country in World War II. McCreedy's Maple Leafs actually won the Stanley Cup in both seasons he played for them. The two-time Stanley Cup winner scored 17 goals and 29 points in 64 regular season NHL games. He passed away in 1979.

                              Bunny Dame
Napoleon "Bunny" Dame scored 2 goals and 7 points in 34 career NHL games with the 1941/42 Montreal Canadiens. Military service ended his NHL career and while he returned to pro hockey, Dame never made it back to the big leagues. He's also notable for winning Gold with Canada at the 1939 World Championships. He led the whole tournament with 8 goals and 12 points in 7 games. Dame passed away in 2006.

                            Jeff Batters
This was a Christmas gift to myself. With my 1990s wantlist slimming down, I stepped up a little bit to get this one knocked of my wantlist. I paid a little more than I wanted because I knew that if I missed it, it might be kicking myself down the road. From 1993-1995 Jeff Batters played 16 games in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues. He died tragically young in a 1996 car accident. Batters was a defenseman who never had an NHL card made so there's very little of his stuff around.

                          Paul Beraldo
From 1987 to 1989 Paul Beraldo played 10 games in the NHL with the Boston Bruins. A Canadian, he became an Italian citizen while playing pro in the country and represented Italy at the 1994 World Championships.

                           Darcy Regier
Darcy Regier is best remembered as General Manager of the Buffalo Sabres from 1997-2013. He also spent time as interim GM of the New York Islanders in 1995 and before that was an NHL assistant coach. From 1977-1984 Regier played 26 games in the NHL. The defenseman dressed with the Cleveland Barons and New York Islanders.

                       Matthew Peca
Matthew Peca has spent this season as a full time member of the Montreal Canadiens. Prior to joining the Habs he had played 20 NHL games with the Tampa Bay Lightning. His is not related to longtime NHL player Mike Peca.

                         Wade Megan
Boston University product Wade Megan has played in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues and Detroit Red Wings. The forward was originally drafted by the Florida Panthers in 2009.

                          Connor Jones
Connor Jones is an undrafted Qunnipiac University alumni who played 4 NHL games with the 2016/17 New York Islanders. His twin brother, Kellen, is also a pro hockey player.

                          Sean Malone
Sean Malone graduated from Harvard at the end of the 2016/17 season. He joined the Buffalo Sabres, who had drafted him in 2013, for then end of the year and played 1 NHL game with the club. Its funny, I get many players write me little notes back, especially since I ask them all if they have a favorite memory from their time in the NHL. Malone's response struck me as particularly well written, which made a whole lot of sense when I double checked his background and saw he went to Harvard!

                          Robbie Russo
Defenseman Robbie Russo was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in 2011. He attended Notre Dame then signed with the Red Wings. He played 19 NHL games with Detroit in 2016/17. Russo also helped Detroit's farm team with the Calder Cup in 2017. He's is currently under contract with the Arizona Coyotes but has spent the season thus far in the AHL.

                          Michael Kapla
Defenseman Michael Kapla made his NHL debut late into the 2016/17 season. He was an undrafted UMass-Lowell grad who signed with the Devils after the college season had ended. He dressed in 5 NHL games with the Devils at the end of that year. Kapla started the next season in the AHL and hasn't made his way back up to the NHL club.

                      Tomas Nosek
Undrafted Czech forward Tomas Nosek came to the NHL via the Detroit Red Wings. He played 17 NHL games with Detroit before being claimed by Vegas in the expansion draft. Nosek became a regular for the Golden Knights, helping them reach the 2018 Stanley Cup finals.

                 Patrik Laine
Patrik Laine was drafted 2nd overall in 2016 and has been a star with the Winnipeg Jets ever since. The sensational Finn scored 44 goals last season with Winnipeg. I was actually surprised I was able to afford this signature. Even as a superstar, his popularity and hobby value is nowhere near that of Auston Matthews, whose certified signature is still way expensive for me to pick up.

                            Scott Darling
Scott Darling was originally drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2007 but was left unsigned by the team. He spent a couple years at the University of Maine then worked his way up the professional hockey ranks from the SPHL to the ECHL to the AHL and finally to the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks. He won the Stanley Cup in 2015 as Chicago's backup. Darling was signed by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2017 but couldn't transition from backup to starter. Internationally, he won a Bronze medal at the 2018 World Championships with USA.

                  Lucas Wallmark
Swedish forward Lucas Wallmark made his NHL debut with the 2016/17 Carolina Hurricanes and is currently a full time member of the NHL club. Internationally, he represented Sweden at the 2014 and 2015 World Juniors, bringing home Silver in 2014.

                            Zach Hyman
A University of Michigan alumni, Zach Hyman was originally drafted by the Florida Panthers in 2010 and traded to Toronto in 2015. Hyman made his NHL debut with the 2015/16 Maple Leafs and has been a regular on the team, already having played over 200 NHL games.

                  Jared Coreau
From 2016 to 2018 Jared Coreau played in 21 NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings. He was recently signed by the Anaheim Ducks and has dressed for the team as a backup but has yet to see any official time with the club. He was recently invited to represent Canada at the Spengler Cup.

                       Kevan Guy
From 1986 to 1992 defenseman Kevan Guy played over 150 games in the NHL between the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks.

                        Rik Wilson
From 1981 to 1988 defenseman Rik Wilson played over 250 games in the NHL, dressing with the St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames and Chicago Blackhawks. He was originally drafted 12th overall by the Blues in 1980. Wilson passed away suddenly in 2016 due to a brain aneurysm.

                  Sasha Lakovic
I'm very happy to add a Sasha Lakovic autograph to the collection because they aren't easy to come by. Lakovic passed away in 2017 at just 45 from brain cancer. From 1996 to 1999 he dressed in 37 NHL games between the Calgary Flames and New Jersey Devils. Lakovic was a feared enforcer during his pro hockey career. He's also notable for having a small role in the 2004 film Miracle.

-----------------------------------------------

A real assortment of 'other' hockey autographs this post.

                            Rob Laurie
I was very happy to get this return back because Rob Laurie is one of my favorite stories in hockey. A retired former pro goalie, he got the opportunity to dress as an NHL emergency backup goalie on 3 occasions. He dressed as an NHL backup goalie with the Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota Wild.

                      Michael Garteig
November 17, 2016 Michael Garteig dressed as an NHL emergency backup goalie with the Vancouver Canucks in a game against the Arizona Coyotes. Canucks goalie Ryan Miller had come down with a sudden case of the flu so Garteig dressed as his replacement, spending the whole game on the bench. Garteig and Laurie both go in my "NHL Backups Only" collection.

                     Stephen Richardson
Defenseman Stephen Richardson played 72 games in the World Hockey Association, dressing with the Indianapolis Racers, Michigan Stags/Buffalo Blades and New England Whalers. Richardson is added to the WHA collection

                   Sarah Nurse
Sarah Nurse represented Canada at the 2018 Olympics, bringing home Silver. Her cousin is Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse.

                  Bailey Bram
Bailey Bram has represented Canada at 5 World Championships and at the 2018 Olympics. Bram and Nurse both go in to my Women of Hockey collection.

                             Fritz Peterson
Fritz Peterson has a very cool hockey connection. Not only did he play hockey growing up, he spent time as a color commentator in the WHA with the 1972/73 New York Raiders during the baseball off-season.

                                Mike Mason
Mike noted in a return letter that he still plays recreational hockey. This card notes that he played it in high school. You can see my full collection of baseball/hockey signatures here

                               Joe Fleming
Joe Fleming is one of the most notable hockey/football players from recent history. The longtime CFL star was actually drafted by the NHL's St. Louis Blues in 1990. The only other pro football player who was drafted in the NHL was a guy named Don Dufek (got his autograph years ago).

                             Rick Graf
An NFL player with a notable hockey background. I've found a number of CFL players with hockey backgrounds but very few NFL players.

Mail featured in the post come mostly from TTM returns and a couple trades. Special thanks to fellow collectors Jeff and Gary.

There are 30 new autographs to share, raising the grand total of unique NHL player signatures to 6,053

                           Bob McManama
From 1973 to 1976 Bob McManama scored 36 points in 99 regular season NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. An undrafted Harvard alumni, McManama also played half a season in the WHA with the 1975/76 New England Whalers. Internationally, he represented the United States at the 1972 and 1973 World Championships.

                         Jim McTaggart
From 1980 to 1982 defenseman Jim McTaggart played 71 NHL games with the Washington Capitals. He contributed 13 points and over 200 penalty minutes. Most recently, he had spent a number of years as an assistant coach with the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds.

                         Jim Camazzola
Jim Camazzola played 3 NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1980s. He later spent many years playing in Italy and Germany. He got his Italian citizenship and represented the country at the 1992 and 1994 Olympics. His brother, Tony, also played in the NHL.

                           Kevin Primeau
Son of Toronto Maple Leafs legend Joe Primeau, Kevin played 7 games in the WHA with the 1977/78 Edmonton Oilers and 2 NHL games with the 1980/81 Vancouver Canucks. He's also notable for representing Canada at the 1980 Olympics.

                      Martin St. Amour
Drafted 34th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 1988, Martin St. Amour was signed by the Habs but never played for them at the NHL level. His only NHL game came with the 1992/93 Ottawa Senators.

                           Martin Hostak
Between 1990 and 1992 Czech forward Martin Hostak played 55 NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers. Internationally, he represented Czech Republic at the World Juniors, World Championships and Olympics. He has a bronze medal from the 1990 and 1993 World Championships.

                            Ales Pisa
Czech defenseman Ales Pisa spent 2 seasons in North America, from 2001-2003. He played 50 games with the Edmonton Oilers and 3 with the New York Rangers.

                          Conor Allen
From 2013-2015 Conor Allen played 7 NHL games with the New York Rangers. The defenseman came to the Rangers as an undrafted college player in 2013. I sent this request to him c/o his current team in the Czech Republic. This is one of the strangest returns I've gotten recently because instead of signing the index card, Allen stuck a signed sticker to it. Not sure if it was something the team does or if he just had some leftover from signing for a company (Stickers are from OFS, a Czech hockey card maker).

                         Anton Lindholm
Defenseman Anton Lindholm made his NHL debut with the 2016/17 Colorado Avalanche and has since played 60+ NHL games with the club. He's also notable for representing Sweden at the 2016 World Championships.

                         George Parsons
From 1936 to 1939 George Parsons played 78 games in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs. An eye injury ended his career but lead him to a job at CCM working on hockey helmets. That would prove to be his lasting legacy to the game and he had a long career at the hockey equipment manufacturing company. Parsons passed away in 1998.

                        Dave Hrechkosy
From 1973 to 1977 Dave "Wrecker" Hrechkosy played 141 games in the NHL between the California Seals and St. Louis Blues. In his only full NHL season, he scored 29 goals and 43 points with the 74/75 Seals. Hrechkosy passed away in 2012.

                       Mickey Volcan
From 1980 to 1984 defenseman Mickey Volcan played 162 games in the NHL between the Hartford Whalers and Calgary Flames. His father, Mike Volcan, was a CFL professional football player who won the Grey Cup twice with the Edmonton Eskimos.

                         Jim Nahrgang
From 1974 to 1977 Jim Nahrgang played 57 games in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings. The defenseman scored 5 goals and 17 points. He later spent time as an NCAA coach at Michigan Tech.

                            Mike Wong
Mike Wong, a Minnesota native of Chinese and Native American ancestry, played 22 NHL games with the 1975/76 Detroit Red Wings.

                              Rob Palmer
There have been two people named Rob Palmer to play in the NHL. This is the lesser known of the two who played 16 NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1970s.

                         Tony Leswick
Tony Leswick won 3 Stanley Cup championships with the Detroit Red Wings (1952, 1954 and 1955). In 1954, he scored the game 7 Stanley Cup winning goal in overtime for Detroit. From 1945 to 1958 Leswick played 740 games in the NHL. He was a member of the Rangers, Red Wings and Blackhawks. Tony Leswick passed away in 2001. Two of his brothers, Pete and Jack, also played in the NHL.

                   Ted Bulley
From 1976 to 1984 Ted Bulley played over 400 NHL games between the Blackhawks, Capitals and Penguins. He scored 101 goals and 214 points in the NHL.

                   Gerry McNeil
Goalie Gerry McNeil won the Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens in 1953, 1957 and 1958. From 1947 to 1958 he appeared in 276 regular season NHL games with Montreal. He was an NHL All-Star in 1953 and a big part of the 1950s Canadiens. He passed away in 2004.

                 Wayne Bianchin
From 1973 to 1980 Wayne Bianchin scored 68 goals and 109 points in 275 career NHL games. He played for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers. He scored a career high 28 goals with the 1976/77 Penguins but a nagging back injury ended his career.

                   Hugh Bolton
From 1949 to 1957 defenseman Hugh Bolton played 235 regular season NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He won the Stanley Cup in 1951 and was an NHL All-Star in 1956. Bolton passed away in 1999.

                    Peter Vipond
Peter Vipond played 2 NHL games with the 1972/73 California Golden Seals. After hanging up his skates, Vipond turned to a different sport, lacrosse. He coached for decades and was even a head coach in the NLL (for New Jersey/Anaheim Storm), the sport's highest pro league.

                    Rick Lanz
From 1980 to 1992 Rick Lanz played 569 regular season games in the NHL. He played for the Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs and very briefly with the Chicago Blackhawks. Internationally, he represented Canada at the 1980 World Juniors and 1983 World Championships (bringing home a bronze medal).

                  Gord Hynes
From 1991 to 1993 defenseman Gord Hynes played 52 regular season NHL games with the Boston Bruins. He's most notable for being a member of Canada's 1992 Olympic hockey team that took home Silver.

                    Allan Egeland
From 1995 to 1998 Allan Egeland played 17 NHL games with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

                   Mike Danton
From 2000 to 2004 Mike Danton played 87 NHL games between the New Jersey Devils and St. Louis Blues. His career ended abruptly when he was arrested and convicted of conspiracy to commit murder. He spent 62 months in prison for the crime. He later resumed his pro hockey career but was never able to get close to reaching the NHL again. Danton must not respond to TTM requests because I had tried him c/o every team he played for after returning to hockey but I had to finally throw in the towel and trade for one.

                       Mike Stuart
A Colorado College alumni, from 2003 to 2006 defenseman Mike Stuart played 3 NHL games with the St. Louis Blues.

                 Mel Angelstad
Undrafted, Mel Angelstad started his pro hockey career in 1992. He made his mark in the minor leagues as a feared enforcer. It was until he was 31 that Angelstad got his first and only taste of the NHL. He played 2 NHL games with the 2003/04 Washington Capitals and is perhaps most notable for being the first NHL player to wear #69. He's also notable for having a small role in the 2017 film Goon: Last of the Enforcers.

                    Cade Fairchild
Defenseman Cade Fairchild was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in 2007. He spent 4 seasons at the University of Minnesota before turning pro. Fairchild played 5 games in the NHL with the 2011/12 Blues, netting 1 assist. Internationally, he represented the United States at the 2008 and 2009 World Junior Championships.

                  Colin Hemingway
Colin Hemingway was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in 1999. He then went to the University of New Hampshire for four full seasons before turning pro. Hemingway went on to play 3 games in the NHL with the 2005/06 Blues.

------------------------------------

                    Amy Potomak
Amy Potomak plays NCAA hockey with the University of Minnesota. She has also spent time playing for the Canadian National Team. Her sister, Sarah Potomak, has also played for the Canadian National Team, the first sister duo to do so.

                               Rocky Dipietro
As the custom card notes, Dipietro has a couple notable family connections to the NHL.

                                     Mike Kenn
I sent Mike Kenn this very specific NFL card to sign because it notes that he played hockey in high school. You don't find many former hockey players in the NFL so I thought this was an especially cool connection between the two sports. You can see all of my hockey/football signatures here

13 New NHL autographs and a few additional hockey signatures to show for the month of February. Some nice TTM returns here with Les Kozak being my favorite. He responded with a wonderful letter.

The grand total of unique NHL player signature is now 6,067 for just under 80% of everyone to ever play in the league.

                        Murray Balfour
From 1956 to 1965 Murray Balfour played over 300 NHL games, dressing for the Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins. He's best remembered as a Blackhawk and helped them win the 1961 Stanley Cup. Balfour died tragically young in 1965. He was only 28 when a tumor in his lung took his life.
I'm not a big fan of the encasing and will free it down the road for a custom index card. I like having flat items with an accompanying picture so I can easily store it in the appropriate binder.

                             Les Kozak
Leslie Kozak played 12 NHL games with the 1961/62 Toronto Maple Leafs. His career ended abruptly that same season when he was forced to retired to to a head injury sustained during an AHL game.

George Standing played 2 NHL games with the inaugural 1967/68 Minnesota North Stars. He spent most of his professional hockey career playing for the EHL's Nashville Dixie Flyers.

                        Ken Richardson
From 1974 to 1979 Ken Richardson scored 8 goals and 21 points in 49 career NHL games with the St. Louis Blues.

                          Dan Chicoine

                       Lindsay Middlebrook

                           Jiri Hrdina
Czech forward Jiri Hrdina made his NHL debut as a 29 year old forward with the 1987/88 Calgary Flames. His NHL career only lasted 5 seasons but he was on 3 Stanley Cup winning teams - the 1989 Flames, the 1991 Penguins and the 1992 Penguins. Internationally, he made a number of appearances with Czechoslovakia, winning Olympic Silver in 1984 and a World Championship Gold in 1985.

                         Mike Pandolfo
Mike Pandolfo was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 1998. He wasn't signed by the club and attended Boston University, graduating in 2002. He was then signed by Columbus and played 3 NHL games with the 2003/04 Blue Jackets. He's the brother of Stanley Cup champion Jay Pandolfo.

                           Sean Bentivoglio
An undrafted Niagara University grad, Sean Bentivoglio played 1 NHL game with the 2008/09 New York Islanders. A big thanks to the Cardiff Devils organization for helping me get Bentivoglio to sign this. He was unresponsive to TTM requests so I reached out to a team official who I'm grateful was able to give me a hand. I desperately wanted this autograph because it was the last needed of the 170 debuts from the 2008/09 season, which I can now mark as 100% complete.

                             Matt Lindblad
From 2013 to 2015 Matt Lindblad played 4 NHL games with the Boston Bruins. He was an undrafted forward who had attended Dartmouth College. Injuries shortened his career and he retired in 2016 but returned to the Bruins as a scout.

                            Aaron Dell
Aaron Dell was never drafted, he attended the University of North Dakota and was later signed by the Sharks as a free agent. He is currently in his third NHL season as a full-time member of the Sharks as their backup goalie.

                              Sean Kuraly
Sean Kuraly was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in 2011 but was traded to the Boston Bruins before turning pro. He's in his second season as a full time member of the Bruins.

                     Alex Foster
An undrafted forward, Alex Foster was signed by the Leafs while he played for Bowling Green State University. Foster played 3 games in the NHL with the 2007/08 Maple Leafs.

                  Clark Donatelli
Clark Donatelli played 25 NHL games with the 1989/90 Minnesota North Stars and 10 NHL games with the 1991/92 Boston Bruins. As head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins AHL club, he was able to lift the Stanley Cup as part of the 2016 Penguins celebrations but didn't get his name engraved on the trophy. Internationally, he represented the United States at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics, he was team captain in 1992.

---------------

                            Zach Sikich
Zach Sikich dressed in 1 NHL game as an emergency backup goalie with the 2012/13 Anaheim Ducks. He had played a few years of pro and at the time of his NHL appearance, he operated a goalie school. Big thanks to Zach for sending me a great little package along with the autograph. This one goes into my NHL Backups Only collection.

                              Tom Renney
Currently CEO of Hockey Canada, Tom Renney was head coach of the NHL's Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers. He also coached internationally for Canada in 10 World Championships and the 1994 Olympics, helping Canada win Silver. This signature goes into my collection of NHL GMs/coaches without NHL playing experience.

                            Ron Rolston
In 2013, Ron Rolston spent parts of two seasons as head coach of the Buffalo Sabres. He was a long time coach at the college level, coaching schools such as Boston College, Harvard and Clarkson. In 2018, he was team USA's assistant coach at the Olympics. Currently, Rolston is associate head coach of Providence College.

                           Bob Nicholson
Currently CEO of the company that owns the Edmonton Oilers, Bob Nicholson is best remembered as CEO of Hockey Canada from 1998 to 2014. He did a commendable job with Hockey Canada and was even awarded the Order of Canada for his work.

                               Chris Hetherington
Former NFL player Chris Hetherington actually grew up playing hockey and played through high school. There's aren't too many NFL guys with hockey backgrounds so this is a great addition to my football-hockey autograph collection.

                     David Tyree
NFL player David Tyree supporting the New Jersey Devils. He's best know for the 'Helmet Catch' in 2008 on the Giants' final drive of Super Bowl XLII. See all my "Touchdown Hockey" autographs.

                    Torey Lovullo
Lovullo is the current manager for the MLB's Arizona Diamondbacks and he is also a former MLB player. This goes into my baseball-hockey autographs.

This month's mail includes 15 new NHL player signatures. The grand total now stands at 6,082 unique NHL player signatures for 80% of everyone to ever play in the NHL.

I was tickled pink this month to get a letter back for Russia. The country is a black hole for TTM requests and of many tries, this is the first one I've EVER gotten back. I had sent to Shafronov c/o his KHL team and included a card of Shaldybin, who just so happens to be an assistant coach on the same club. To my delight, both came back signed. These were two of the very last living Russian NHL players I needed to find.

                             King Clancy
Francis "King" Clancy played in the NHL from 1921-1938. He's an NHL legend who was the league's top scoring defenseman of all-time when he retired. He won the Stanley Cup 3 times as a player and another 3 times as a coach. Clancy was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1958. This autograph was a direct result of tirelessly searching ebay at night while I watch TV. I go through a mental list of key word searches and grabbed this cut for $20! I'm sure its authentic so that's a steal in my books.

                            Keith Wright
Keith Wright played 1 NHL game with the inaugural 1967/68 Philadelphia Flyers. Returns like this really make me question the reliability of the postal system. I know I've had many letters lost over the years but for many others I only have suspicion. I've tried Wright at this address 4 times over a period of many years. This one came back in record time and Wright noted that he was always happy to sign. Makes me wonder what on earth happened to the first 3 requests.

                        Ian McKegney
Ian McKengney played 3 NHL games with the 1976/77 Chicago Blackhawks. He took a very unconventional route to the NHL, playing 4 seasons at the University of Waterloo then a year in Sweden before signing with Chicago. His younger adopted brother, Tony McKegney, also played in the NHL.

                            Chris Felix
From 1988 to 1991 Chris Felix played in 35 regular season and 2 playoff games with the Washington Capitals. The defenseman recorded 13 points during his short NHL career. He's also notable for representing Canada at the 1988 Olympics.

                    Konstantin Shafranov
Kazakhstan native Konstantin Shafranov scored 2 goals and 3 points in 5 career NHL games with the 1996/97 St. Louis Blues. Internationally, he represented Kazakhstan at the Olympics in 1998 and 2006.

                      Evgeny Shaldybin
Russian defenseman Evgeny Shaldybin scored 1 goal in 3 career NHL games with the 1996/97 Boston Bruins. He spent 4 seasons in North American and the rest of his career was spent in Russia, where he played until 2011.
This return also completes the 1996/97 year of debuts, 107/107.

                           David Rittich
David Rittich was never drafted. A late bloomer, he was signed by the Calgary Flames as a free agent in his mid 20s. He's entering his second season as a full time member of the Flames. Internationally, he represented Czech Republic at the 2018 World Championships.

                 Garrett Burnett
Garrett Burnett was a feared enforcer who played 39 NHL games with the 2003/04 Anaheim Ducks. He recorded 1 goal and 184 penalty minutes in his NHL career. Burnett once racked up 506 penalty minutes in just 58 games with the AHL's Kentucky Thoroughblades in 1999/00. Interesting fact about Burnett, he did some acting in Vancouver during off seasons and had a small role as a commando soldier in the movie Mr. Magoo.

                Bryce Lampman
From 2003 to 2007 defenseman Bryce Lampman played 10 games in the NHL, all with the New York Rangers. Internationally, he represented the USA at the 2002 World Junior Championships.

                Steve Richmond
Defenseman Steve Richmond attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1982 and was later signed as a free agent. From 1983 to 1989 he played in 159 regular season NHL games, dressing with the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings. He was briefly a teammate of Wayne Gretzky's while with the Kings. His son, Danny, also played in the NHL. Steve Richmond recently won the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals as their director of player development. He had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup with the 2018 team.

                    Brad Miller
From 1988 to 1994 defenseman Brad Miller played 82 games in the NHL. He was a member of the Buffalo Sabres, Ottawa Senators and Calgary Flames.

                     Ed Patterson
From 1993 to 1997 Ed Patterson played 68 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He posted 3 goals and 6 points through his NHL career.

                   Mark Major
Mark Major was a tough grinder who was drafted 25th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1988. He toiled in the minors, became a free agent, was signed by the Boston Bruins, remained in the minors and was eventually signed by the Detroit Red Wings. He made his NHL debut with the 1996/97 Red Wings, playing 2 career NHL games. He didn't record any points but did have 1 fight in the NHL, with Toronto's Tie Domi.

                      William Nylander
The Toronto Maple Leafs drafted William Nylander 8th overall in 2014. His father, Michael, and brother, Alexander, have also played in the NHL. William is in his fourth season as a Maple Leaf. Internationally, he has represented Sweden at the World Juniors and World Championships. He won a Gold medal at the 2017 World Championships with Sweden.

                Brandon Montour
Defenseman Brandon Montour spent his first three seasons in the NHL playing for the Anaheim Ducks but was recently traded to the Buffalo Sabres. He is of Native American (Mohawk) ancestry and also excelled at lacrosse growing up.

                         David Quinn
David Quinn has been the head coach of the New York Rangers since 2018. He did have a brief pro hockey career as a player but only reached the NHL behind the bench. He had previously served as an assistant coach with the Colorado Avalanche but most of his experience came in the NCAA or with the national hockey program in America.

                          Julien Brisebois
Julien Brisebois started his NHL executive career with the Montreal Canadiens, rising to the role of VP of Hockey Administration and GM of the team's AHL affiliate. In 2010, he was hired by the Tampa Bay Lightning to be the team's assistant GM. When Steve Yzerman left the team in 2018, Brisebois was promoted to General Manager.

              Mike McNamara
Defenseman Mike McNamara played 19 games in the WHA with the 1972/73 Quebec Nordiques. In the 1980s he moved to Switzerland to play hockey and stayed in the country as a coach. He continues to live and work in Europe. This signatures goes into the WHA autograph collection of guys who played in the rebel league but not the NHL.

                    Renata Fast
Renata Fast played with the Canadian national women's team at the 2017 World Championships and 2018 Olympics. She brought home a Silver medal from both tournaments. This goes with my Women of Hockey autographs.

                     Phil Pritchard
This is a super random hockey autograph in that I certainly don't have a binder/category for it but at the same time he's a very notable figure in the game. He's the 'Keeper of the Cup.'
This is the fourth 'oddball' hockey autograph I have from this year's Goodwin set. I also picked up  Olly Postanin and Jacob Ardown autographs, two guys made famous from their hockey related youtube channel - "On the Bench." I also picked up a Nikko Landeros autograph, the first ever certified sledge hockey autograph card.

                                  Jeren Kendall
Jaren Kendall currently plays in the Los Angeles Dodges system. As the card notes, Kendall "Played high school hockey."
This autograph and the next two go into my Baseball-Hockey autograph collection.

                                   Jake Burger
Jake Burger is a prospect in the Chicago White Sox organization. He was a 2017 first round pick who has a hockey backround. As the second card notes, he "Became White Sox fan while visiting Chicago for youth hockey tournament."

                                 Josh Naylor
Josh Naylor is current in the San Diego Padres organization. A Canadian, its noted on the second card that he "Played hockey until he was 13."

The month of April saw 21 new NHL player autographs arrive in the mail. The grand total of unique NHL player autographs in the collection is now 6,103 for 80% of everyone to ever play in the league. Every single autograph can be seen on my Autograph Collection page, organized by year of debut.

A number of TTM returns and some purchases to share. The ProCards come from the same person. I don't normally purchase 'common' signatures but these were all guys I had tried, most multiple times, writing to in the past. Furthermore, the prices were actually reasonable. I found the Lefebvre hidden in a small lot of autographs and the Tsygurov was one I'd been watching for some time.

                       Barry MacKenzie
Defenseman Barry MacKenzie played 6 games in the NHL with the 1968/69 Minnesota North Stars. He's most notable for representing Canada at the 1964 and 1968 Olympics, winning bronze medal in 1968. In 1999, MacKenzie was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame.

                        John A. Stewart
From 1970 to 1975 John Stewart played 250+ NHL games between the Pittsburgh Penguins, Atlanta Flames and California Seals. He also spent a couple seasons in the WHA, dressing for the Cleveland Crusaders, Birmingham Bulls and Minnesota Fighting Saints. There were 2 players named John Stewart who played in the NHL, I now have both of their signatures.

                          Dan Gloor
Danny Gloor played 2 games in the NHL with the 1973/74 Vancouver Canucks. He was the 1972/73 IHL's rookie of the year when he scored 43 goals and 93 points in 73 games in his first season of pro hockey. He was a point-per-game pro player but was never able to make it at the top.

                         Paul Boutilier
I keep meticoulous notes on all my autograph requests sent. Since 2015 I had sent six requests to Mr. Boutilier at a number of different addresses. I finally got a hit - persistence! - and he event wrote back a nice little note. During the 1980s defenseman Paul Boutilier played 288 regular season games in the NHL dressing for the New York Islanders, Boston Bruins, North Stars, Rangers and Jets. He won the Stanley Cup in 1983 with the Islanders.

                         Brian Tutt
Defenseman Brian Tutt was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1980. He spent years playing pro until finally making his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals in 1989/90. He played 7 games for the Capitals, scoring 1 goal. Internationally, Tutt won a Silver medal with Canada at the 1992 Olympics and a bronze at the 1995 World Championships.

                          Greg Stewart
Absolutely thrilled to finally add a Greg Stewart autograph. He completes the 2007/08 year of debuts for me, all 146 autographs can be viewed here. From 2007 to 2010 Greg Stewart played 26 NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens. One interesting fact about Greg Stewart, he's one of the only post 2005/06 NHL players to NEVER received an official NHL rookie card. That's also one of the reasons his autograph took me so much time to find.

                           Denis Malgin
Swiss forward Denis Malgin has been playing with the Florida Panthers since the 2016/17 season. He's scored 24 goals and 48 points in 148 NHL games with Florida. Internationally, he's represented Switzerland at the World Juniors (2015 & 2016) and World Championships (2017).

                     Erik Gustafsson (b. 1992)
In the past decade there have actually been two Swedish defenseman in the NHL named Erik Gustafsson. This Erik Gustafsson was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 2012 but never signed with the club. In 2015, he signed with the Blackhawks as a free agent and has become one of their best offensive defensemen. He scored 60 points in 79 games during the 2018/19 season. Internationally, he's played for Sweden at 3 World Championships, bringing home a gold medal in 2018.

                   Denis Tsygurov
From 1993 to 1996 defenseman Denis Tsygurov played 51 NHL games between the Buffalo Sabres and LA Kings. He spent most of his career in native Russia and passed away in 2015 at just 43.
I had been eyeing this card for some time. When the buyer lowered his asking price, I decided to throw him an offer and I was finally able to land it for a price that I was comfortable with. First thing I did when I got his was free it from its authentication casing. I dislike big bulky things as I like to store in binders. I only collect to collect so I have no remorse in tossing the grading case.

                  Patrice Lefebvre
Patrice Lefebvre had an incredible junior career, so much so that in 2019 the QMJHL announced the top 10 players in league history and Lefebvre was one of them. He scored an incredible 187 goals and 595 points in the QMJHL. His short stature left him undrafted and Lefebvre travelled to France to start his pro hockey career in 1988. He spent years as a pro player, many in Las Vegas with the IHL's Thunder. He eventually reached the bigs and played 3 games in the NHL with the 1998/99 Washington Capitals as a 30 year old rookie.

                     Jeff Parker
From 1986 to 1991 Jeff Parker played 141 games in the NHL. He spent most of his career with the Buffalo Sabres but did play a handful of games with the Hartford Whalers. Parker passed away in 2017 and the New York Times later published an article about his fight with C.T.E.

                      Kim Issel
Kim Issel was drafted 21st overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 1986. He played 4 NHL games with the 1988/89 Oilers. He's been working as a police officer since hanging up his skates.

                    Tom Bissett
Tom Bissett played 5 NHL games with the 1990/91 Detroit Red Wings. Internationally, he represented the United States at the 1992 and 1999 World Championships.

                    Marc Laforge
Defenseman Marc Laforge played 9 NHL games with the 1989/90 Hartford Whalers and 5 NHL games with the 1993/94 Edmonton Oilers. He was a tough customer who accumulated over 3,000 penalty minutes playing pro hockey and whose junior career ended prematurely when he was indefinitely suspended from the OHL for an incident.

                    David Littman
In the early 1990s, David Littman played a couple NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres and 1 game with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He actually worked for EA Sports later in his career and helped produce the company's NHL video games.

                  Bobby Babcock
From 1990 to 1993 defenseman Bobby Babcock played 2 NHL games with the Washington Capitals.

                    Jaroslav Sevcik
Czech forward Jaroslav Sevcik played 13 NHL games with the 1989/90 Quebec Nordiques. He returned to play hockey in Europe but ended up settling down in Nova Scotia. I would have spent time living a short drive from him, but I was never able to track him down for an autograph. I couldn't get the right address or he doesn't respond to TTM.

                       Dave Pasin
A Memorial Cup winner in junior with the Prince Albert Raiders, Dave Pasin was drafted 19th overall by the Boston Bruins in 1984. Pasin jumped directly into the NHL from junior, scoring 18 goals and 37 points in 71 NHL games with the 1985/86 Bruins. That was the extent of his career with Boston after being assigned to the AHL the following season. He only played 5 more games in the NHL, with the 1988/89 LA Kings. He spent most of the 1990s playing pro in Italy.

                Max Middendorf
From 1986 to 1991 Max Middendorf played 13 games in the NHL. He suited up for the Quebec Nordiques and Edmonton Oilers. He won the AHL's Calder Cup in 1992 with the Adirondack Red Wings. Internationally, he represented the United States at the 1986 World Junior Championships and came home with a Bronze Medal.

                   Ralph Barahona
Ralph Barahona played 6 games in the NHL with the Boston Bruins, scoring 2 goals and 4 points with the early 1990s Bruins. Barahona overcame all the odds to make the NHL. A native of Long Beach, California, he was undrafted and playing for a Division II college team when he was signed by the Bruins.

                      Al Tuer
From 1985 to 1991 Al Tuer played 57 games in the NHL. The defenseman played for the Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota North Stars and Hartford Whalers. From 2001 to 2010 he returned to the NHL as a scout with the Calgary Flames. He later moved to the Florida Panthers and is currently the team's Directory of Pro Scouting.

------------

                           Dick Todd
From 1980 to 1993 Dick Todd was head coach of the OHL's Peterborough Petes. He coached Team Canada's 1991 World Junior Championship squad to a gold medal. In 1993, he was named assistant coach of the New York Rangers, a position he held until 1998. Todd won the Stanley Cup with the Rangers in 1994 and has his name engraved on the trophy.

                       Rob Cookson
Rob Cookson started his NHL career in 1998 as a video coach with the Philadelphia Flyers. From 2001 to 2011 he was an assistant coach with the Calgary Flames and since 2016 he's been an assistant coach with the Ottawa Senators.

                         Matt Shaw
Matt Shaw was an NHL assistant coach from 2009 to 2012 with the San Jose Sharks and from 2012 to 2013 with the New Jersey Devils.

                         John Van Horlick
Defenseman John Van Horlick played 2 games in the WHA with the 1975/76 Toronto Toros. This goes into my collection of WHA signatures from guys who played in that league but not the NHL.

                   Mike Jeffrey
Mike Jeffrey dressed in the NHL as a backup goalie for 2 regular season games with the 1988/89 Boston Bruins. He dressed as backup to Rejean Lemelin while the regular starter, Andy Moog, took time off to witness the birth of his child. Mike Jeffrey, a North Michigan University grad, only played 2 seasons of pro hockey before retiring.
This Mike Jeffrey autograph and the following autograph, Doug Gimour, go into my 'NHL Backups Only' collection.

                   Darryl Gilmour
Darryl Gilmour never played in the NHL, but he dressed in at least 17 NHL games as a backup goalie with two different teams. He got his first taste of the NHL with the 1987/88 Philadelphia Flyers, dressing as a backup to Mark Laforest. Gilmour later dressed for 16 NHL games as a backup with the 1991/92 LA Kings. Wayne Gretzky and Kelly Hrudey's Kings were on a hot streak and unfortunately for Gilmour, he spent the entire time on the bench. Most goalies in his situations would have gotten into at least one game but Gilmour was unlucky and so remains off all of the official all time NHL player lists even though he was a member of the Kings for way longer than some one game wonders.
